The fight over Second Amendment rights in the nations capital has entered a new phase. A federal judge has ruled that the citys concealed carry law is likely unconstitutional, citing the good reason provision in the injunction order on Tuesday (via WaPo ):
For the second time in as many years, a federal judge in Washington ordered the city to halt enforcement of its new, concealed-carry law, requiring applicants to state good reason to carry a weapon in order to obtain a permit from police. The preliminary injunction was contained in a 46-page ruling Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon that will be in force pending further litigation. Leon declared the Districts gun-permitting system is likely unconstitutional. The system was adapted by the District after its long-standing ban on carrying firearms in public was overturned at court order in 2014.
That’s all they have to do. Delay, delay delay.
New York, Michigan, Oregon and Illinois are sovereign states with extensive reserved police powers.
The District of Columbia is not. The police power in DC (and all other governmental powers) belong to Congress, and it is up to Congress to address this.
That's the thing, they keep at it until they chip away enough of our rights that we don't notice until they are ALL gone.
Tyrants never sleep.
Detroit is in Michigan. Michigan is a “shall issue” state. People in Detroit have been getting CCW’s like it’s going out of style, all with the full approval and encouragement of the Detroit police chief. A lot was made of Texas having 1 million CCW carriers. Well, Michigan already has a half million, with a much smaller population. Detroit has its problems, but getting a CCW ain’t one of them.

Sigh....if only this could happen here in New Jersey...
-——————————————————————————————What would it take?
I think it’s their intent. The clock keeps ticking while it’s sorted out in court and meanwhile people continue to be denied their God given right.
A good sniper can kill a machinegun or mortar crew very quickly.
Anyone else more than tired of 46-pages of lawyer-ese to spell out “The Right of the People to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed.”??
>New Jersey is a sovereign state with police power proper to a state, extensive in scope.
N.J.’s ‘police power’ do not trump inalienable Rights of We the People.
Nor does any ‘police power proper to a state, extensive in scope’ over-ride the plain English and condition of said Right: shall NOT be infringed.
The Tyrants don’t want the pitchforks too close to the throne.
Don’t know why “...shall not be infringed” is so difficult for some to comprehend.
I'd write a novel for them to consider.
You should read the article on why it was rejected. It was too restrictive and subjective by government.
Don’t feel bad. I read it the same way you did. Very badly worded and unclear article.
The DC city councilmen need to be arrested for sedition.
“If the judge ordered members of the DC City Council to be arrested for contempt they would soon change their view.”
The correct charge would be sedition, not contempt.
Sedition would be a good charge to add to many others the corrupt turkeys are undoubtedly guilty of.
Second Amendment?
Yep, the judge said the “good reason” requirement of D.C. for a concealed carry permit is unconstitutional.
I did after I posted.
You could read the entire thread...posts 20 and 26.
