A new study released on May 11 by the Pew Research Center indicates that middle-class Americans are losing ground as a share of the population, especially in metropolitan areas. Pews analysis was based on its study of U.S. government statistics found in the 2014 American Community Survey and the 2000 Decennial Census. During the period bracketed by those two surveys, the percentage of Americans whom Pew would classify as middle class fell in 203 of the 229 metropolitan areas in the United States.
The decrease in the middle-class share measured six percentage points or more in 53 metropolitan areas, compared with a four-point drop nationally.
These findings reinforced a previous analysis completed by the Pew Research Center, released to the public last December 9, indicating that the U.S. middle class had declined to the point where it makes up slightly less than 50 percent of the U.S. adult population. According to that study, in early 2015, 120.8 million adults were in middle-income households, compared with slightly more 121.3 million adults who were in lower- and upper-income households combined.

But the middle class continues to slowly decline.
no shit, why do you think so many of us are supporting Donald John Trump.
I saw a recent study which showed that the reason the Middle Class is shrinking is because the Upper Class is growing. Poor folks staying pretty stable, but most of the population is getting richer and richer and richer.
Of course, some of these studies may actually be trying to hide the truth ...
Business Insider had an article this week on how official inflation is 2%, but when you take education, healthcare, food, energy and rent into account, it is 3% - and this is 70% of middle class spending, 90% for the poor.
And a 1% difference over 20 years with stagnant wages means they’ve had flat incomes with 20% higher cost of living.
That’s the basis of the “indescribable problem” MSM says of middle class discontent, flat wages against slowly rising prices.
The middle class is mad that the elites of both sides don’t care about raising the costs of essentials through various government policies. The working poor are mad that the “immigrants take jobs Americans don’t want” take THEIR jobs while adding competition for limited resources.
And that’s why Trump’s nationalism and economic jobs focus is making him so popular, especially with the working whites.
The Democrats keep saying they are building the economy ‘from the middle out’...
