On the right, weve grown to pride ourselves on our greater openness to debate and ideas, on having no need to toe a Politically Correct line or crawl into a safe space like pampered college kids who just cant handle hearing from anyone who disagrees with them.
For myself, I am so personally dedicated to this ideal that I even perform the great personal sacrifice of reading the comments field beneath my articles.
Yet somehow I wasnt surprised to see Donald Trump supporters, those swaggering tough guys, turn one of their favorite Internet forums into a safe space where they no longer need to encounter criticism or opposition. Earlier today, Free Republic proprietor Jim Robinson announced that the discussion board would no longer tolerate opposition to Trumps candidacy.

Are you guys talking about C. Edmund Wright?
It would seem so.
He hasn't had too many kind words to say about FR over at his new website home (the Federalist apparently).
I was actually in contact with C. Edmund offline, had some good conversations with him, as Yoda might have said regarding C. Edmund's regrettable choices, "most unfortunate".

Funny comment, yours, but of dubious veracity.

Didnt know about this one but someone alerted me.
Not to be confused with "nathanbedford", who appears to still be a FReeper in good standing.
I don't always agree with him, but I like the guy.

Well he was, yep. But I would guess anyone could do that at anytime.
I find it much more interesting to see who was supporting whom, and when. Trump became my candidate the day of his announcement speech, 6/16/2015. And that thread/comments was a bit like a harbinger, or a forecast of events that followed.

You are doing a pretty good job of getting them, but you have a little more work to do. In reality, there is no such thing as “free speech”. One cannot slander another individual without consequences. One cannot shout “Fire!” in a crowed theater without consequences One cannot curse one’s superior officer to their face in the military without consequences. One cannot perjure themselves in a court proceeding unless you are a Clinton.

Free Republic is PRIVATE PROPERTYIt is genuinely heartbreaking to me -- for realsies, no foolin' -- that the very concept of private property rights, so fundamental to core conservatism, actually needs to be painstakingly EXPLAINED to these self-righteous yip-yops.

We need to know what the opposition is thinking or planning. So I am more than happy to see anti-Trump articles. How else does one get to know the enemy?

Yeah, but that Quantum Blaster of yours is still firing dangerously. Turn it off before an innocent FReeper is hurt.
To: mkjessup
Oh, he was another Catholic-hater who was allowed to thrive on FR. Did he leave over Trump? LOL, what an ass.

I know George Knapp. Now there’s a crackpot.
