U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, plans to run for re-election in 2018.
Cruz, who ended his presidential campaign last week, said "yes" when asked Wednesday morning by a reporter in Washington, D.C., if he would seek a second term, according to CNN and The Hill. Cruz's office later confirmed the exchange.
The announcement adds some clarity to Cruz's political future following his decision to exit the presidential race on May 3. While Cruz could change his mind, running for re-election in 2018 puts to rest some speculation he would sit out a second term to prepare for a comeback bid for the White House in 2020.
Cruz was first elected to the Senate in 2012, when he upset then-Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the Republican primary to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison.
No need for 2020 hopefully. Worry about 2024.
Former Lt Gov. who lost to him in 2012. Maybe Perry.
A few weeks ago Amanda Carpenter let it slip on CNN that during his first year in the Senate, Cruz traveled around the country going to Lincoln Day dinners to schmooze possible future delegates for a presidential run. She said that she knows this because she worked for him and scheduled it. Then she tried to immediately backtrack, paraphrasing, "but he wasn't planning to run yet," trying to reverse the bombshell she had accidentally just dropped. IMO he did not plan to serve his senate term. He wanted higher office and of course still does. Surely Texas has another qualified person who can run (and was born in the United States.)
I will donate $$$ to anyone challenging him for reelection. Lyn’ Ted needs to be retired.
One of the commenters at the Scott Adams blog said that Cruz reminded her of a mortician trying to sell you the most expensive casket. Ever since reading that I can’t get the image out of my mind.
Is Rafael voting for Trump or for Hillary?
Why primary him? Because he ran against Trump?
Good luck with that, Ted.
Because Trump nicknamed him “lyin’”... or somethin.’
Just let me know who is running in the primary against him, so I can donate in 2018.
at least he’s an American citizen this time
You left out the column that says “Talks a lot, has nothing to show for it”
“Personally, Id be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and learn from his mistakes of the present in the hope that he becomes an ally of the future.”
Yeah, well Leopards don’t change their spots! I hope Texas repudiates this turd in 2018. He’s simply not worthy of being a US Senator.
When Texas secedes, Ted’s angling to be Prime Minister.
[ Primary him. ]
The PRESIDENTIAL primary is OVER!
Cruz is certainly a hell of a lot better than 75% of the OTHER republican Senators in the Senate, Primary THEM FIRST!
Then and only then should you worry about Cruz.
He just needs to get things done and stop showboating.
We have the senate.
What have they done?
What party? The Hitler Party? Isn’t Cruz the most evil person in the history of the universe?
I do not consider Cruz to be conservative, mostly because he put the CON in servative....thanks, you keep him!!!
