Trump’s promise: ‘I will appoint judges that will be pro-life’
MSNBC ^ | 05/11/16 | Steve Benen

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump appeared on Fox News last night, where he fielded a question from a viewer who wanted him to “name one specific thing he would do to protect the sanctity of human life.” The GOP candidate quickly turned his focus to judicial nominees:

“I will protect [life] and the biggest way you can protect it is through the Supreme Court and putting people in the court. And actually the biggest way you can protect it, I guess, is by electing me president.”

Trump added that he expects to name “as many as five” high court justices in the coming years, adding, “I will appoint judges that will be pro-life, yes.”

Well, obviously if he says it, then it must it be true. Its not like people running for office ever just say things to get elected and then don’t do them. No doubt a guy who was so pro-abortion that he supported partial birth abortion before running for President will appoint pro-life judges.

This must be rough for Trump. To get conservative (or what used to be conservative) voters, he must project his intentions. But I worry that, with his info out there, some of the SCOTUS libs will resign while Hussein is still in the White Hut so the dope can make his own appointments. Maybe Congress will stand firm, as with Scalia’s departure, and not act on any of the dope’s appointments.

You mean, the way every "Conservative" ever elected has done?

Cruz was still telling media outlets that legalization of illegals was still on the table, despite telling people he had never supported legalization, but this does not bother you as much as a 14 year old position does.

The voters have weighed in. Trump was found to be the preferred candidate.

Your choice is now Trump. Unless you think Hillary is lying about being pro-choice just to get elected.

I hope that he doesn’t merely ‘appoint pro life judges’ but that ALL the judges he may get to appoint will be pro life.

“I will appoint judges that will be pro-life, yes.” That would require two. He didn’t rule out pro-abortion judges. We need more than this.

“You mean, the way every “Conservative” ever elected has done?”

Every Conservative? Name these Conservatives who were for partial birth abortion prior to running for office and then declared that they were pro-life in order to get elected.

You may be right, but then again, he may actually keep his promise. We know for a mathematical certainty that Clinton will appoint not only anti-life justices, but aggressively anti-life ones. While I don’t think the abortion issue is a hill to die on for Trump, it definitely is for Clinton. So while we can’t be certain we’ll get what we want from Trump, we know for sure we won’t get it from Clinton.

In any case, Trump is not only the lesser of two evils. He is by far the lesser of two evils. And the less certain of two evils.

Clinton and Sanders will aggressively use the DOJ to go after those who hold Judeo-Chrisian values. They have promised to do so and I believe it is a promise they will aggressively keep. At worst, Trump simply doesn’t agree with Judeo-Chrisian values, and he may or may not live by them while in office. But he’s not going to persecute Christians. Hillary and Bernie will most assuredly do so.

So to those who say #NeverTrump, I say think about that.

He is not jesting either. The proof is in who you hire. One of my friends shared this article with me. Marjorie Dannenfelser is a heavyweight in the pro-life movement and her endorsement is not easily gotten:

Why not? Our pro-life presidents Bush, Reagan, and GWB appointment pro-choice justices over and over again. We might well have better luck with a former pro-choice candidate.

Is he lying now or lying before?

I hope he had a change of heart. He is on his 3rd wife, so we know promises don't mean much to this guy.

"Cruz was still telling media outlets that legalization of illegals was still on the table, despite telling people he had never supported legalization, but this does not bother you as much as a 14 year old position does."

Your comment at least slightly plays into the anti-Trump silliness that you are deploring, to the extent that you dignify a flippant comment on a subject that the then focused builder was not really focused on, as a "position." It was a flippant remark, not well thought out; certainly not reflecting a considered position.

If you consider Donald Trump's personality in a fuller context, you will see why he may be expected to keep the Conservative promises that he has been making in this campaign--now that he really is focused on political issues.

See Trump: Metaphor For American Conservatism.

Cruz was still telling media outlets that legalization of illegals was still on the table, despite telling people he had never supported legalization, but this does not bother you as much as a 14 year old position does.

Billyboy has given us a perfect example of why Cruz fell flat on his face. Their probably isn't a person here who does not know the easily verifiable evolution and timeline of Donald Trump's public stance on abortion. Yet Billyboy made a statement that implied that Trump was supporting partial birth abortion right up until the day he announced he was running. People have had enough of this type of misleading nonsense, yet Ted Cruz and his followers do not seem to understand why he has become so despised.

Ted Cruz actually appeared to be an advocate for giving illegal invaders a free pass even after he announced. In January 2016 after he was already running for president Ted Cruz said that he would not have jackbooted thugs running people out of the country, implying that Trump would be using Nazi tactics to get rid of illegal immigrants. Then a month later he said that he was stronger on getting rid of illegal immigrants despite his recent comments and recent actions in the Senate. People have had enough of this kind of doublespeak.

Yet both Cruz and his followers continue this pattern of trying to mislead people even in forums where the vast majority know better. That is just not going to be helpful to them or their cause. Do they feel so superior to everyone else that they think this gives them justification to make up anything that they want? I do not know.
