Donald Trumps primary run left him with few friends among evangelical leaders, who are now weighing sitting out the general election entirely. But there is one way, they say, to win them back: picking a vice presidential candidate socially conservative enough to compensate for Trumps many heresies.
Several of the countrys top socially conservative leaders, from Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council to Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America, said Trumps choice of running mate would be among the most important factors in deciding whether to activate their extensive grass-roots networks on the real estate billionaires behalf.
Whos he going to surround himself with? The first indication is going to be vice presidential choice, said Bob Vander Plaats, who served as Ted Cruzs national co-chairman and is revered in Iowa evangelical circles.

Cruzers are still losers!
Forget Cruz, why shouldn’t Trump pick Bernie Sanders?
I personally think FRANKLIN GRAHAM would be a good VP.
POLITICO is really rushing out the “Disasters for Trump” memes fast before they disappear..
Their DNC masters are gonna work them hard this election!
The losers want their “Participation Trophy.” NO DEAL!
Trump needs a veep who will support his choices and back him up. They will need to play as a team with Trump leading. The so-called evangelicals have proven beyond any doubt that they will spit and curse, fight and scratch any worthwhile solution to the problems we have as a country. The real believers elected Trump throughout the south.
Trump is now well over 1100 with tonight’s 70 delegates.
Ok, that last part better be satire, or else it's time for the men in the white coats. I wouldn't let that crazy old Marxist into the White House on a tour, much less as VP.

Way to try to alienate your fellow conservatives.
“Phony Bob Vander Plaats popping off again.”
He tied his horse up to the Cruz wagon and it did not go anywhere. Now he is whining about it.
If they don’t understand what is at stake, they are foolish - as are any that would follow them.
It’d be yuge! Win in a landslide, unite the young’uns!
Then fire Bernie after the election.
But they had no problem with a Progressive Mormon who said he was "proud" Obama used RomneyCare as the "model for ObamaCare"? What morons.
This is almost, well IS, comical. Will they prefer Clinton or Sanders?!
Graham’s probably not willing to take the pay cut.
Wouldn’t Bernie as Trump VP cause a few heart attacks? Personally, as long as it is not Cruz, Rubio, Bush, etc., I could really care less. Happy to see both establishment parties toyed with and tossed aside as irrelevant.
Yes, as in literally, like from a cannon.

Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse has had experience dealing with Middle Eastern countries. He is not afraid to speak out.
isn’t there a scripture about being so heaven focused you are no earthly good?
I think many of the Evange leaders are a little over the top about this. Instead of seeking meetings with trump and praying for him and asking God to help open Trumps eyes and heart to areas he’s been a little murky, they try to thwart Trump and now try to influence his decisions for VP. Trump needs a VP he can work with, not just some very godly man not suited for the job.
fools, because they know better but choose to act stupidly.
These so-called leaders control about 3% of the vote and influence about 20%.
Most of those votes will stick with Trump over the admonition of their preacher.
