Far from irreparably fracturing the GOP, Donald Trump is quickly winning the backing of many of the partys top elected officials, with senators returning to Washington this week pledging their support for him as their nominee.
Outside of Washington, Republican voters are likewise warming to Mr. Trump, and are decidedly cool to calls to recruit a third-party alternative to Mr. Trump and likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, saying theres too much at stake to give Democrats another four years control of the White House.
I think its a great idea, but not for this particular election, said Gregg Mattox, standing outside an Omaha polling station in Tuesdays GOP presidential primary. You split the vote and youre going to get a liberal Supreme Court and Hillary Clinton in the White House for four years. The timing is just bad.
A week after he chased his remaining opponents from the race, Mr. Trump is steadily if somewhat shakily earning over Republican voters and lawmakers who supported someone else in the bitter primary.
Im for the nominee of the party. If it is Donald Trump, Ill be supporting him wholeheartedly, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, Texas Republican, told reporters at the Capitol, where lawmakers reconvened for the first time since the Republican National Committee chairman declared Mr. Trump the presumptive nominee.
Even Sen. Marco Rubio, who ran against Mr. Trump for the nomination, said despite deep policy differences, hell stick by his pledge to back the GOPs eventual nominee, saying voters have chosen the billionaire businessman.

Go Trump Go!
I couldn’t help but notice that when Dick Cheney said that the third party nonsense needed to stop, it stopped.
That poll released today showing Trump tied, or in the lead in PA, Ohio & Florida crippled the NeverTrump gangsters today.
Cheney is one of the few great people from the Bush administration.
Ben Sasse has outed himself as a Cheap Labor Express stooge.
I hope the people of his state remember that when he comes up for election and they Cantorize him.
Aw gee, and Ben had such a great chance.
I really thought he should have been prez and not Bush. He was great in the debates.
He was one of the few adults in American politics.
TTTT!
Right on, we needs more Cheney’s.
A thinker and communicator.
The vermin will still be plotting. Guaranteed.
Ben Sasse, the Horse's Asse.
When is he back up?
In those debates, Cheney showed that being solid is greater than being charismatic. He and Leiberman put on a good show.
Absolutely, they're desperate.
Each one got in a few cute digs at the other, and I figured that after the show, they went out for a beer and discussed each other's political jump shots.
Great accessory for the 'Never Trump' crowd.
