And after a record turnout of voters in Monday's elections, Mr Duterte scored a commanding victory, according to data released by the PPCRV, a Catholic Church-run poll monitor accredited by the government to tally the votes.

The death of the Canadian hit Filipinos hard. They are good people.

Duarte is a thug.

I am not sure that is a bad thing in this case given the overt corruption in the Philippines. Lee Quan Yu in Singapore smiled more but ruled with an iron hand and Singapore is a good place to live. As long as he leaves office when his term is up and doesn’t turn into dictator or I think he has a good chance to really help the country.

He is known as “Duterte Harry” ( a play on Dirty Harry ), AKA “The Punisher”.

People decry his use of Vigilante justice, but he has made Davao ( the Philippine’s third largest city ) one of the safest cities in Asia. No mean feat.

Yeah, he did.

Of course he used death squads to do it.

I don’t question that, but you have to do bad things to bad people to stop them. They quit because you ask nicely.

Of course he used death squads to do it.

Good morning from Davao City, Philippines. We are waking to a massive change of the tides of politics here.

Duterte was elected with more votes than any other candidate, with #2 candidate (of 6) being more than 6 million votes behind. Evidently, his tactics are approved by the majority. Before entering into the Davao Mayorship (which is moe than 20 years now), he was a prosecutor. He saw the results of the criminal element on the populace.

Yes, he does (not did) use vigilante justice. It is effective. He goes after the roughest and vilest of them, and leaves it to God to sort it out. Drug dealers are particularly in his sites. But, now he is after bigger fish, and will likely go back to the courts to make his case against the political corruption. The drug dealers are still targets of the vigilantes.

I live here because it is safe. Some have tried to make it a bad place by referring to the Canadian that was beheaded. That was another place and an isolated event. Abu Sayef is into ransom and the killing was only to further the appeal from 20 others from many nationalities that they hold hostage still. Duterte has already made it clear they are in his sights! The Army and Police are already seeking the strongholds, but they keep moving the hostages.

I have concerns about his election, but mainly my concerns are for his safety. Lots of people are after him now, and the political elites here are being exposed.

Our Donald is not a vigilante, but he is surely exposing the dark underbelly of the political elites in America. He is the one hope I have for America's future, at this point. I will send a few bucks his way, and do all I can to support the effort to elect him. He doesn't need the money, but we need him.

Vote Trump!

The death of the Canadian hit Filipinos hard. They are good people.

Most of the ones I talked to, were downright angry about it.

Your are correct sir. Even our domestic helper came in this morning, and told me DU30 won, like I didn't already know it. She was pretty excited about it.
