Anti-Trump forces ponder options, including a Sasse bid

With Donald Trump now the presumptive Republican nominee, the various #NeverTrump forces are pondering everything Thursday from enlisting first-term Sen. Ben Sasse to avoiding the White House battle altogether.

Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, has emerged as a central figure in the movement. He wrote a Facebook post early Thursday arguing for an alternative candidate to Trump and Clinton, which had garnered more than 6,400 likes by late morning.

"Why shouldn't America draft an honest leader who will focus on 70% solutions for the next four years? You know ... an adult?" Sasse wrote.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.... (those immortal words from Smokey and the Bandit).

I believe it was both. But it was in “Cool Hand Luke” first. ‘Smoky and the Bandit’ was an Homage to Cool Hand Luke.

Sorry about the foul tip.

Agreed, unless you're already one of the insiders and keeping your position for another four to six years is more important than a voter mandate.

They are operating against the mandate now, so they've already proven that they don't care.

Really? How interesting. I had no idea of the expanded connection of the same line in two movies. Cool.

Can’t believe you caught that detail, after all these years.

Thanks.

I think it's too late to get on Texas Ballot the 2nd Largest State

Independent candidates for President file an application with the Secretary of State. The application must be submitted with a petition, and both documents must be filed no later than May 9, 2016. The petitions can be circulated beginning after March 1, 2016. For 2016, the petition must contain 79,939 signatures of registered voters who did not vote in the presidential primary of either party. The application must include the information about and signed consent from the candidate’s vice-presidential running mate. In addition to the petition and application, an independent candidate for President must provide signed, written statements of consent to be a presidential elector candidate from 38 presidential elector candidates (the number of presidential electors that federal law allocates to Texas). Forms are linked below and may be obtained from the Secretary of State’s office.

I think the only potential is to grab the nomination of a 3rd party which will be on the ballot (assuming sore loser laws don’t prevent it).

I’d love to see Burney go for the Green Party ticket.

CNN is jumping on any hint for a 3rd party that would siphon votes away from Trump. They seem to be scared shitless!

To those who know Ben Sasse,

How interesting that he got “conservative leader Bill Kristol” (CNN’s words, not mine)’s full throated support for this 3rd party nonsense.

I don’t remember Bill Kristol, conservative leader, had anything funny against McCain, nor Romney, nor Bush. If so, somebody can correct me, please.

Wasn’t it Churchill who said basically that Americans will do the wrong thing until they’ve exhausted all the wrong options? Something like that. I’m tired and brain not working great right now. Anyway, I think we will continue to do the wrong things in this country until we are **FORCED** to do the right things.

Oh good, the Petulance Party is going to be a thing. The Dems have the Donkey, the Republicans have the Elephant, their symbol can be a Crying Baby.

I had no idea of the expanded connection of the same line in two movies.

It is a fairly common film practice especially in comedy/satire.

Go ahead and let these fools have their fun.

They will be laughed off the national stage and humiliated. Their repudiation will be total and irredeemable.

Bring it on, "NeverTrump" losers...

Vote Trump

Just like they did with 0bama??? There is NO conservative or GOP Congress. They were given the Golden Apple, ate it, then went to sleep!

“That loser sASSe was at that island resort meeting off the coast of Georgia.

He is much worse than merely “worthless”. He is dangerous to the country with his ambition. Does he think he can be installed president or is he just being paid off so well by rich Dem donors, who want to stop Trump at all cost to help Hillary become president?

Because first-term senators have worked out so well in executive positions.

3rd party, huh? I would like everyone who even thinks that such would be a good thing, in ANY way, to read this article, “Hillary Clinton and America’s Last Election”:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3427493/posts

It will not only be the end of the GOP, but the end of any effective opposition to the Leftists. They have DROOLED over this possibility, of having us kill ourselves, and now people like Sasse are RUNNING to do it. INSANITY!!!!!

I believe that’s what he said. We have had a bad habit of kicking things down the road. We have been discussing some of the same problems and issues for decades without ever acting on them. Another good quote is from von Bismarck : “There is a special Providence that protects children, drunkards, fools, and the United States of America.” I think we are close to running out road to kick things down. I hope we don’t run out of that Providence.

Of couse, in addition to having corrupt, cowardly, inept political leadership, we also have a lazy, inattentive, ignorant populace that doesn’t take its rights and obligations as citizens seriously. And now we have a monster in Washington that is arguably in an adversarial role toward the country and the people.
