Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) is calling for a third-party presidential candidate to emerge, saying there is no reason to believe that either of the two national front-runners "believe in limiting anything about DC's power."
The conservative senator late Wednesday issued the call in a letter on Facebook to "the majority of Americans" who wonder why the U.S. "can't find a healthy leader who can take us forward together." "With Clinton and Trump, the fix is in. Heads, they win; tails, you lose. Why are we confined to these two terrible options? This is America. If both choices stink, we reject them and go bigger," Sasse wrote.
"Why shouldn't America draft an honest leader who will focus on 70% solutions for the next four years? You know...an adult?" Sasse added.
Sasse envisions a candidate who hasn't spent their life in politics, "either buying politicians or being bought." He also wants a candidate to serve for only one term "as a care-taker problem-solver for this messy moment."
Sasse, the father of three kids, indicated he's not interested in being that candidate himself, arguing for someone who can campaign around the clock through November.
"Although I'm one of the most conservative members of the Senate, I'm not interested in an ideological purity test, because even a genuine consensus candidate would almost certainly be more conservative than either of the two dishonest liberals now leading the two national parties," he added.
Sasse is one of few leading Republicans who have indicated that they will never support Trump as the nominee and signaled in February that if Trump becomes the presumptive GOP nominee, as the businessman has this week, he'd look for a third-party alternative.

But THIS, Sasse has NO problem with, and this is HIS group!

If Sasse were a ‘good guy’, he would NEVER be a part of this...this is HIS senate scamming Trump supporters.

Don’t blame me. I supported Shane Osborne in the primary that Sasse won.
“We should start a list for one and all to see whose who and exactly all those that put themselves before the good of the country.”
Long list, methinks.
In fact, 98% of them.
Tom Cotton and Mitt Romney are two of the names being kicked around by this #neverTrump cabal.
Tune in to Michael Medved and I’m sure that you can hear their latest plan.
Set us up the Bernie as third party!
Sorry but I can’t call anyone a “good guy” who engages in actions that will knowingly result in President Hillary Clinton.
Ben didn’t have this pang of conscience with McCain or Romney. He wouldn’t be doing this with Nominee Jeb or Kasich.
He’s a Nevertrump jerk that’s pissed that the one guy he didn’t want got the nod, and his poor ego is so bruised that he, his ass clown buddy Beck and a host of others are going to give the Presidency and SCOTUS to the wicked witch and why? So they can snuggle up at night with their precious principles blankee and feel oh so smug as they tell themselves they’ve kept their constitutional virgin purity.
Good guy my ass.
IIRC most people here wanted Sasse. Osborn was a dirty elected official after all and Sasse was an “outsider”.
Now, a lot of conservatives were very understandably turned off by Trump’s primary campaign, myself included. HE should reach out to them and show some of this purported leadership. Maybe he could explain to Sasse how he didn’t really mean any of that WWE style stuff he said about Cruz, he was just playing to the neuron-challenged electorate, that’s the deal right?
That said, a third party challenge does nothing but guarantee victory for Clinton, and anyone who works toward making that happen is being totally uncool. So far, it’s just talk.
I’m not gonna trash Sasse just yet. Let’s see what develops. Party unity isn’t a one way street, Trump needs to call on disaffected conservatives like Sasse and have some private conversations. It’s as much on him as it is on them.

I’ll be waiting a long time for Cruz to reach out to Trump supporters and apologize for calling us low info. Shots were fired both ways in the primaries yet for some reason Cruz supporters seem to have forgotten that. Trump owes nothing to anybody now. The primary is over now and the target is Hillary.
BTW, Sasse has been a preening never Trump dirt bag for months. He met in secret back in march with rich Democrats in an effort to influence the GOP primary. Do your homework before giving him a pass.
“Trump owes nothing to anybody now”
He owes it to all us to win the general election like he said he would. In my opinion that means doing his part to heal the rift. Cruz is no longer in the race.

Cruz surrogates continue to very publicly fight the primary battle. That does not unify the party. He needs to rein them in. He is not. Cruz chose to dump a big you know what in punch bowl on his way out the door. That was no favor to party unity. The primary was a two way brawl. Cruz does not get a free pass, IMO.
“Long list, methinks.”
A 1,000 mile journey begins with he first step......
Trump went through the primary field like wrecking ball. Politics is a bloodsport. No one will deny that. But the blows he leveled against GWB, Carson, Cruz and Fiorina - just to name a few - were definitely below the belt. It’s despicable, IMO, for a so called Republican to adopt the primary talking points of the most liberal Rats to attack a fellow Republican.
I’ll hold my nose and vote for Trump, but will not send him a dime or lift a finger for him. He brags constantly about how rich he is and has plenty of wealthy fat cat Wall Street friends so he doesn’t need my money. He has ardent, die hard supporters who would walk the plank for him, so he doesn’t need my help.
Besides the rough and tumble of it, the thing that people (myself included) took from all that was that he was more than capable of handling himself in a way that could get him elected against the rat/media complex (who already has colluded from the beginning of the campaign with the GOP on below the belt stuff). I like that he can handle them.
Now, you can sit put if you like, that's your right. Just remember, he stands for most everything that's important right now. Stopping illegals, winning the war against radical Islam, overturning bamstercare, bringing back the economy, moving back to capitalism, no longer supporting the abortion lobby, rebuilding our military and more.
It's unfortunate that you'll be on the sidelines as we battle the democrat/Clinton/media complex.
I'd say something snarky, but I think you can read between the lines...........
Amen!
