Presidential politics is a fickle business.
On the heels of a decisive victory in Wisconsin, Ted Cruz lost his next major contest in Indiana, prompting the Texas Senator to suspend his campaign.
As when any candidate drops out of the race, Cruzs decision left thousands of Americans concerned for the future of their country. Those who believed Cruz was the elections only true conservative (or had the best shot of beating Hillary Clinton) are now wondering what the country will look like under the next president. They see their nation slipping away, and they feel powerless to stop it.
And its true. If the American people try to enact change through federal structures, theyll continue to feel helpless and frustrated. Washington, D.C., is too far away and federal officials are too powerful for the average American to exercise any influence.
At the state level, however, the situation is much different, which is why the Convention of States Project has seen so much success. An Article V Convention of States is called by the state legislatures at the request of their constituents. At the Convention itself, state delegations propose constitutional amendments that limit the size and scope of the federal government. Finally, 38 states must ratify any amendment proposals before they become part of the Constitution.
Each step is state-controlled, which means the people have a real opportunity to influence and dictate which amendments are proposed and which are ratified. National politics are hit or miss -- its time to pursue a real, workable solution to the problems within our federal government.
There...fixed it.
This answer to federal abuse of power. Ny limiting the power of the states, it put the treasury at the mercy of a select few.
We lost our country along time age, before BJ Clinton, its a long slippery slope from here. Each candidate is going to offer more cake to each special interest group, with there being less and less money available for said cake.
The republican party lost me when they ran McCain, a true conservative cannot win anymore as the losers (the democrats)control the narrative, i.e. the education system and the majority of the media, they even control what the candidates debate about.
Not one candidate has a plan for the future of the country except more entitlements.
They lost me when they didn’t nominate Taft :-)
you guys just never give up, do you?
The #NeverTrump crowd, I understand how they feel, however they should work to help elect more conservatives to the house and senate, If trump does what he says he will, Trump will need allies on the hill, if Trump does a 180 we need solid conservatives to keep him on track.
Nor do the anti-Trumpers of the GOPe. They will be defeated...total defeat, like the Dems...not that there’s much difference.
And I am just here wondering....who was the person who thought that Cruz would be a good president? He isn’t even a good senator! Am I only the one?? Really? If he is lucky, sometime in his lifetime, he might merit SCOTUS. If....
My only power is to vote against Mrs. Bill Clinton.
“And I am just here wondering....who was the person who thought that Cruz would be a good president? He isnt even a good senator!”
That was me. I’ve always been for Trump. And I think Cruz would make a great president. I just never thought he had a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Hillary.
Part of their "unifying the party" schtick. </sarcasm>
On the heels of a decisive victory in Wisconsin...If Wisconsin had been decisive, the race would have been over at that time.
The Uniparty is real and has no concerns outside of its own aggrandizement.
It is time to step outside the Uniparty mental straight-jacket and logically deal with our problems.
If only half of the regular posters to FR sent one email to their state legislators in support of a Convention of States, the national debate would shift from its current reality TV show level and on to a much higher plane worthy of the American tradition.
And me. I supported the conservative in the race. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to vote for a conservative in the fall, but I'm also very disappointed in the race that Cruz ran in the last part of his campaign.
It certainly was not me. If you focus on resumés and experience, disregard ideology, and put emotionality out of the mix, then the clear choice is Trump. The president is a top level executive, and the best qualified people for the job are those with executive experience.
We have had a few lawyers as president, and they simply have not done well—the current president is a great example of that. The most conservative lawyer in the world cannot possibly do any better, because being a good president isn’t about one’s ideology—it’s about having the qualifications for the job.
Donald is brilliant, FEARLESS and tireless, and he knows ALL the dirt on the criminal Hillary. Not being PC crippled and spineless as the rest of the politicians, he will hit her with ALL of her criminal activities- from Benghazi on!
When he starts on her, he will SLAUGHTER her.
And those of you who are so angry that Cruz will not be the nominee that you will not vote; with all due respect, PLEASE rethink that. Lets put our anger aside and UNITE. We MUST, repeat MUST get a Republican back in the executive position again! We MUST!
THE FIRST THING THE CRIMINAL HILLARY WILL DO IS TAKE OUR GUNS. SHE WILL CONTINUE WITH OBAMA'S POLICIES TO DESTROY OUR VALUES, OUR WAY OF LIFE, OUR AMERICA.
ANYONE WHO STAYS HOME AND DOES NOT VOTE IS CASTING A VOTE FOR THE CRIMINAL HILLARY.
THERE WILL BE THE USUAL RAT VOTER FRAUD AND CHEATING.
WE MUST ALL GET OUT AND VOTE. LETS MAKE THIS THE BIGGEST REPUBLICAN VOTE TURNOUT IN HISTORY!!! WE CAN and WILL DEFEAT HILLARY.
BUMP!
Thank you, FRiend.
