Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.
"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.
"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.
"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."
Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.
Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.
For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.
Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

He may get general election votes that he wouldn’t have.

Boom,Trump knocks him out with that answer. Trump says that Cruz is none of those things without having said it directly.
Other than a SCOTUS justice, Trump could make Cruz his hatchet man. That is, put Cruz in charge of the radical reduction in the size and power of the federal government.
This is a widely used technique in big business. That is, to hire someone whose job it is to fire people, slash spending, close unprofitable branches, etc. All the flack is focused on the hatchet man, not the big boss.
He could make Cruz “the last American Czar”, eliminating that unconstitutional mess at the same time. As a Czar, he would work directly for the POTUS and not be confirmed by the senate.
His first job would be the creation of a very slim federal budget, much smaller than the budget submission these days; and to hold congress’ feet to the fire. Right now they deal in terms of trillions of dollars. So the first budget submission would be, say $800b. Think “Pawn Stars” but with real money.
“I want $10,000!”
“I’ll give you $10, but I’ll be generous and offer you $20.”
If congress wants to appropriate more than that, they will have to justify it or risk a veto.
Back handed wave of his hand and move on to the next question.
I do it everyday at the 7:30 production meeting.
I used to think he’d be a fine addition to the court.
Now, he impresses me as the kind of guy who would constantly try to be too clever by a half, and end up outwitting himself.
Send this guy packing.
How hateful.
Guess you think that having a Supreme Court justice that believes in the murder of the unborn constitutes as one “having balls”.
“Ted would be an outstanding justice.”
Ted lies too much. I don’t want a chronic liar on the Supreme Court. He doesn’t play well with others. Cruz would be a big pain in the derriere to the conservative justices on the Court as well as the libs. And I suspect he would be an erratic, at best, Supreme in his decisions. Don’t trust him.
I agree.
Absolutely no freaking way!
He would stab us in the back forever or until he dies!
No way!
A friend gave one of them a speeding ticket once and it was several years before he wasn't somehow berated by that judge whenever he had to testify in court.
I have to say, though, none of them told people they were chosen by God to be our King before they became judges and none of them think that now. Nor does Trump, for that matter, but the Cruzie cheering club ignores what Ted himself, his wife, his father, and Beck all say. After all, Cruz says all kinds of things that help him at the time but that he doesn't really mean, right ?
Glad we could clear that up.
Trump’s sister is a million times more conservative then Cruz. Cruz is worse then a liberal. Liberals are jealous at how natural Cruz lies.
Cruz doesnt realize what he has done to himself
Six months ago, I would have been, great, Cruz would be great a this
...
Yep. Cruz is young. He could have set himself up really well for the future, but he decided to sell out to the GOPe and go nuts. I’d have a tough time supporting him for anything now. He used to be my top pick.
No Hillary is not
Unless of course you are part of the never trump cabal
Trump could nominate Cruz to SC.
But how would he get Cruz confirmation in the Senate.
Trump would have to give away the store to get Cruz the votes in the Senate.
Not worth it.
For your butt hurt.
Probably a tough call for others, but I’d think about it.
A lot of what Cruz is doing is part of a drive to win. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I’d probably put him on the list. I wouldn’t necessarily pick him, but he’d be on the list.
What reason would Cruz supporters vote for trump should he win?
Oh yeah, people would stand in line to go out for an evening on the town to be wined and dined with Ted.
