Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.
"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.
"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.
"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."
Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.
Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.
For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.
Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

My sister is a left wing nut also, so what!
We usually do, Molly. That’s because we are intelligent, rational, and see reality, instead of living in a bubble and day dreaming about something impossible.
Oh go away caww. Your feathers were toasted months ago!
There can’t be unity until Cruz concedes.
We welcome all former Cruz supporters, it is the defiant hold outs who raise our ire.
Is unity groupthink?
We don't have to "sell" you on anything! It's YOUR responsibility to face the reality of it all and decide for yourselves. Trump SHALL be the nominee. So you either vote for him, or help Hillary or Bernie or Biden, or whomever win; or not.
Most of the bernie supporters will NOT vote for Hillary.
Many of the Dem base don't like either and have already come over to be Trump supporters.
So you want to play DOG IN THE MANGER/CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE, do you? You are with us, or against us; it's up to YOU.
Huh??????
He can’t even figure out he’s ineligible for POTUS.
USSC???/
NO Way.....GO AWAY.
I hear Canada is nice this time of year......
I already said who I would vote for. Don’t need a sermon.
But they don’t matter at this point. If the attacks stop, the Cruz supporters grumble for awhile and then jump on board. Don’t you see it? You alienate without a purpose other than self-satisfaction. We need to move past the primaries now and focus on the real enemy, HRC.
And if your desire is to have your butt kissed because you’re unhappy you chose a losing candidate, you’re sure to be disappointed.
Frankly, I’ve had it with most of the Cruz supporters. For the most part, I find them to be a bunch of angry, uninformed, malcontents who seem to be unable to adapt to new information.
They advocate for theft of the nomination, using ‘the rules’ to somehow put the nomination into the hands of a person that people have resoundingly and increasingly rejected all across the country.
I’m not quite ready to say that people who justify that kind of thievery are not my countrymen, but let me tell you, I’m much closer than I would like.
So, don’t expect people to be buying you ice cream after your fellow Cruz supporters have spent the better part of a year trying to lie, cheat, and steal a path for your guy, all the while calling us ‘Trumpanzees’.
It’s Planet of the ‘Trumpanzees’ now, pal. Eat it.
I don't think the nation is ready for the "first live TV booger eater" sitting on the bench. I suspect we will have gotten more used to this and be ready in 2032.
Thank you for your kindness. This used to be a Christian forum.
Anyone who, at this point, still wants to see Cruz in politics at all has a hole in their head where their brains fell out.
Yes we do and thank you. The real problem is the refusal of the Cruz supporters to accept cold, hard, facts. They do, as you say, continue to live in fantasy land. Trump is a realist. I love that about him. He calls it like he sees it. Cruz always tries to put the lawyer speak on anything he says.
Bobo - I know this is hard for you now...I understand. Don’t vote for him if you don’t want to...let your conscience be your guide. Trump will probably have enough support from crossover voters and those who haven’t voted in years, if ever, based on the excitement he’s generated. He’s garnered more votes than any other Republican in the 162 year history of the party, with 10 states, including California still remaining. No small feat.
........”Its Planet of the Trumpanzees now, pal. Eat it.”....................
With that attitude we can then assume you don’t need Cruz supporters for the general election should Trump win the Nominee.....OK, done.
What will you do when he hands it to Hillary?.....He’s already got his game in play to walk away unscathed.
Awwww...did I hurt your precious little feelings, snowflake?
I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize you were retarded enough to base your vote on something someone posted on a web forum. Oh wait, my bad...you’re a Cruz supporter, so you probably would. Oh well...
“Defiant Hold Outs”?!? It a primary, vote for who you think is the best candidate. The date that your state gets to vote in a primary shouldn’t affect your choice of the best candidate. Would probably be best to move all the primaries to the same date.
