No, Ted Cruz was not ‘John Boehner’s lawyer’

John Boehner via stanforddaily

The media is working hard to convince you that they caught Ted Cruz in a lie about working with John Boehner. But they are the ones lying, as usual.

During an interview hosted by Stanford in Government (SIG) and the Stanford Speakers Bureau, former House Speaker John Boehner referred to presidential candidate Ted Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh.” He continued, “I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”

But Boehner did not “work” with Ted Cruz. Boehner only worked against Cruz as he golfed with Trump, who Boehner referred to as his “texting buddy.”

The comments are reminiscent of other nasty names Boehner has used to describe the constant anti-establishment thorn in his side. Last year, the failed Speaker referred to Cruz as a “jackass,” and still another time as a “false prophet.

In the world of lawyers, there is a public record on who appears as attorneys to a case. Cruz is on record as an attorney on the case. Cruz denied this. Cruz is a liar. These are the facts and the logic.

Boehner is too good a liar to just make things up - he takes a kernel of truth to disguise his lies.

At the core, the question is: Did Boehner have enough direct contact with Cruz to say what he said? I respond with an emphatic NO! The Leaker of the House is doing gymnastics to give credibility to his original lie.

Who should I believe? Boehner or Cruz? It’s a no-brainer for me...you choose for yourself.

I have not read anywhere that he denied being on the case; only that he was not the pus-bag’s lawyer.

Saying “he was my lawyer” implies a much closer association than does “he was on of the staff lawyers on my case”.

Boehner was trying to claim the close association, Cruz was denying it. At the Core, Boehner is lying, Cruz is not.

Remember - Boehner’s story depends on eager dupes to gain traction. Only the dupest of dupes could be a Boehner dupe.

If Ted was a lawyer on the case, then Boehner told the truth.
Ted denied he was ever a lawyer for Boehner, a lie.
Ted denied knowing or talking to Boehner, perhaps true but it doesn’t matter.
One lie and a truth make one a liar.

I admit I haven't been following this closely, but Boehner didn't need to have much contact with Cruz to not like the guy. Millions of people who've never met Ted Cruz feel the same way. And Ted could have been a minor lawyer in the case who filed paper work and spoke to the press but didn't have contact with Boehner.

It looks like papers at the time jumped to a conclusion by calling Ted "Boehner's lawyer" rather than "a lawyer working for Boehner" or "a lawyer on Boehner's team," and snarky media jumped at this without really considering what it might actually mean as a way of discrediting Cruz.

So this may be a case where neither politician is actually lying.

The article says that Boehner didn’t work with Cruz only against Cruz. Who the heck is Cruz but a first term senator. Boehner does not or should not work with Cruz. Different part of government body too. FUTC.

come on...Cruz worked for Boners attorney. So yea he was an attorney working on boners case. Doesn’t make him a liar

You people are trying too hard to make Cruz fit your description of him being a liar. He’s not a liar.

Cruz is a total liar. Heard him very recently on a major network claiming Trump’s positions were identical to Clinton’s and that Trump was running on a platform of raising taxes and supporting the Iranian deal. Cruz is obsessed with slamming Trump to such an extent that he is coming across now as unbalanced. We were big Cruz supporters, but no longer.

Cruz bashers are just too easy to troll. Just let this one go, there are plenty of other “legitimate” reasons to dislike Cruz. The irrationality of this silly season will be legendary.

If there were benefit right now for Cruz to have been Boehner’s attorney, he’d be bragging that he was Boehner’s attorney. SInce that’s not the case, he’s claiming his BOSS was Boehner’s attorney, oh, no, not HIM, no no no!!! All he did was draft briefs and speak to the press on Boehner’s behalf. He was just a baby attorney! Seriously? That dawg don’t hunt.

Assisting Bolten on domestic policy at Austin headquarters is R. Ted Cruz, a former clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and an attorney at Washington’s Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, where he represented Rep. John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) in his breach-of-privacy lawsuit against Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) over the leaking of tapes of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s cell phone conversation.

It’s been all over the news. He first denies ever having been a lawyer for Boehner, then he proceeds to say he never talked or met with Boehner.

A lie followed by a truth still makes a lie.

He was on the case and his attorney history will show he was on the case, the same as if someone was a witness on a case. Cruz knows he was on it.

He should have told the truth: “I was an attorney on Boehner’s case but not the lead attorney.”

But Cruz lied:

“Their relationship in fact began almost two decades ago, when Boehner hired Cruz to be part of his legal team in the late 1990s. Boehner had sued longtime Democratic Congressman Jim McDermott of Washington state allegedly for defying wiretapping laws. Fifteen years before he was sworn in to the Senate, Cruz publicly defended Boehner, albeit briefly, per The Washington Post. The case continued for years, but a judge ultimately sided with Boehner and awarded him more than $1 million in legal fees by 2008.”

http://www.newsweek.com/ted-cruz-fires-back-john-boehner-lucifer-insult-453556

The reason Cruz is reacting this way is to shake off the truth that he has been a Washington insider. He is saying he doesn’t know Boehner to lend an argument that he is an outsider. He is not an outsider. He is an insider who happens to be unliked; he’s a pariah.

Being unliked by Boehner is a positive. Lying about working for him is a negative that far outweighs any of his positives.

At one time Cruz was to be admired for his stands but not any longer. He is led by Romney and RNC insiders. All that anyone needs to know about him to know he is owned are described in two words: “Neil Bush”.

The citizenship f Ted Cruz does not depend on any action taken by his parents after his birth. His mother was American. That makes him American. So shut up.

He was a “baby lawyer” whatever the hell that is.

No it does not. If Cruz’s mother had given up US citizenship prior to his birth, he IS NOT eligible.

He does not have a US birth certificate. Even if he did, he was not born on US soil to two US citizen parents.
