Will Ferrell has backed out of a comedy about Ronald Reagans struggle with Alzheimers disease following outrage from the former presidents family.
The 48-year-old comic confirmed Friday that while he had seen the script and considered signing on to star and produce Reagan, he was no longer going ahead with the project.

Hmmm he finally is showing some common sense.
No I don’t think so. It’s more of the chance to mock Reagan, the money was a plus, gravy.
May they NEVER forget him. Not for even an instant.
Props, but I’m dubious as to HOW MUCH.
He went an awfully long way towards committing to this, knowing full well what the subject matter was.
Only when the heat came on did he decide that doing what he preferred to do was going to hurt his career and wallet.
We’ll I guess he does have a shred of decency. How did it get this far?
Looked into his history...you’re likely right.
Hollywood lost its ability to judge between funny and not funny around the same time it lost the ability to tell the difference between good and evil.
Good.
Don Hewitt, the late producer of 60 Minutes, famously went before a Liberal cocktail party in Manhattan and groveled, begging their forgiveness.
It seems they were blaming him and his stories about Welfare Queens for getting Reagan elected.
Sorry. Should be resident.
Will Ferrel is NOT funny. He is a real goofball that, for some unknown reason, has gained celebrity. I have tried to see some of his work and to see real humor in it, but I only see a repulsive “Look at me! I’m really funny!” schlump.
Even Jerry Lewis is funnier than him and that is really stretching it.

The ONLY thing i can say in his defense, and it’s a weak argument, but a possible one- is that he just didn’t realize how serious the disease is- having a ‘comedy mind’ might have contributed to thinking it’s just a disease where you forget things sometimes- which comediennes have always used forgetfulness as a comedy routine-
Many people don’t realize how devastating alzheimer’s really is- and do joke about it- not out of mean-ness- but out of ignorance- I even made the mistake of making a ‘memory oriented joke’ once to a person who’s parent had alzheimer’s and waas rightly berated for it- I just didn’t understand how serious and devastating the disease really is to the people and their families- it’s absolutely horrible- but if you don’t have first hand knowledge, you can see how someone might not realize that it isn’t funny to joke about htis awful condition—
I’m not sure though I’m willing ot excuse him with this explanation- but it’s possible I guess-
Good!
Whether he did it for strictly commercial reasons, or whether Patti Davis and others got to his conscience, I am glad that he did the decent thing. Of course, the REALLY decent thing would have been to not even consider a project like this in the first place, but I’ll take a little late doing the right thing to never.
I still don’t think that he’s that funny, and I still won’t watch his films, but at least I can count him among the less indecent of the folks in Hollyweird.
What’s next Hollywood? A comedy about colon cancer?
He’s a Lib douchebag
I’’d bet it was his PR team that advised him to drop out, not him.
It appears that Mr. Farrell wasn’t ready to go the way of Jim Carrey, although Farrell’s just as big an asshat as Carrey...
Me too, it got my mom and now my good friend’s mom.
He got the message but is an a$$ for even considering it.
“I think I may be allergic to Will Ferrell. He has NEVER made me laugh-nothing. I don’t get him.”
Same here. I’m proud to say that I’ve never seen any of his movies but have seen him on SNL. Overrated.
I’ve also heard that he is one of the rudest, nastiest, most arrogant celebrities that people have met. I can believe that.
Having seriously considered the project, he has revealed his personality.
