Trump Endorser Bobby Knight: 'I Don't Know What a Conservative Is'

Donald Trump scored a major endorsement from a very beloved Indiana hero, Hoosier basketball coach Bobby Knight. The endorsement serves to give an important boost to help Trump win the state in his march to the nomination. But on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon Thursday when asked to respond to critics that suggest Trump was not a real conservative Knight admitted, “You know, I'm not sure what a conservative is.”

“I don't know whether a conservative is a guy that goes to bed too early or maybe doesn't sleep long enough or just what the hell he might be,” the coach explained. “I don't know. Maybe he's a guy that -- you know, he just wants to be real quiet. I don't know what a conservative is,” he continued.

Donald Trump believes in enriching and empowering himself by appealing to resentful and angry people with grade-school educations and monosyllabic vocabularies.

I guess that would include me...but I would submit anyone not angry over Obama's fundamental transformation isn't paying attention. As far as the grade school education...doesn't everyone have one of those?

As far as the monosyllabic vocabulary...not so much.

Bobby Knight doesn't know what a lot of things are. Which makes him a perfect endorser of Donaldus Minimus.
Maybe [a conservative]'s a guy that -- you know, he just wants to be real quiet.

If Knight thinks a conservative might be a guy that, you know, just wants to be real quiet, he sure as hell just endorsed the wrong man.

In case you haven't noticed, there's a candidate other than Trump vying for the GOP nomination who is equally angry over Obama's "fundamental transformation," and who has come up an equally strong but more reasonable agenda to lawfully and constitutionally dissemble that "fundamental transformation."

And in contrast to Trump, he doesn't have a history of making campaign contributions to the likes of Clinton, Pelosi, Reid, and Schumer.

If Trump wins, we have to battle him to support a real conservative agenda.

Why is it up to Trump?

If there had been a so called “Conservative Agenda” where has it been?

Since 2010 many of us have supported and voted for a Republican Majority that made Promises to the Moon on what they would do, the Line they would draw in the Sand.

What did all these Republicans do, they supported and gave Obama almost anything and everything he wanted. They did not even make some kind of Symbolic Gesture to pass anything anti-Obama, like repealing and offering a real alternative to Obamacare. They just caved and caved often.

So forget Conservatism, it is a failed so called Ideology and Philosophy that doesn’t work and won’t.

If Trump just brings some common sense to the table and fights for that I will be satisfied.

I see where Cruz just had in event in Lafayette, IN today. It included Sen. Mike Lee, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Carly Fiorina, and wife Heidi.

Great choice of geographical location. He can appeal to the Purdue vote which naturally detests Bobby Knight!

Like the conservative agenda we've had over the last eight years? Yeah, get me behind THAT conservative agenda!

I am personally sick of hearing about the "conservative agenda". The "conservatives" had eight years - eight damned years - to prove that they could change things and miserably blew it. There is no longer any confidence in the GOP establishment, much less in the so-called "conservative agenda": Fool me once (McCain), shame on you; Fool me twice (Romney), shame on me. There is no three.

The electorate is politically nauseous, and NO ONE ELSE has the cure. Trump is the emetic.

I am not knocking Trump and will vote for him in California primary. But I prefer conservative positions, fiscally and socially. If he is elected, I hope that is what he will embrace.

It is a leap of faith to embrace him, but many people, myself included, believe that he may be the only person who can save the country.

Two responses:

Germany.

Japan.

Trump may be many things, but I don't think anyone can credibly argue that he doesn't understand business. He's been doing business literally all over the world for decades. I don't think Trump is an isolationist — winning and making America great again includes having a world with lots of other strong economies with people willing and able to buy what America produces.

A functioning capitalist economy doesn't require political freedom, but it sure helps, and a free economy often leads to political freedom as powerful and wealthy business leaders start demanding the government listen to what they want. It may take a long time — even in our own tradition, the power of the urban merchants in the British House of Commons vis-a-vis the landed nobility took centuries to develop, and probably couldn't have happened if the English barons hadn't forced the king to sign the Magna Carta centuries before that.

But I think Trump understands that third-world military dictatorships, or the centralized and planned economies which for generations dominated states like China and Russia, are not good for business.
