AT LAST, AMERICA FIRST!
WND ^ | 4-28-16 | PATRICK J. BUCHANAN

Posted on 04/28/2016 4:29:47 PM PDT by dynachrome

Whether the establishment likes it or not, and it evidently does not, there is a revolution going on in America.

The old order in this capital city is on the way out. America is crossing a great divide, and there is no going back.

Donald Trump’s triumphant march to the nomination in Cleveland, virtually assured by his five-state sweep Tuesday, confirms it, as does his foreign policy address of Wednesday.

Two minutes into his speech before the Center for the National Interest, Trump declared that the “major and overriding theme” of his administration will be – “America first.” Right down the smokestack!

Gutsy and brazen it was to use that phrase, considering the demonization of the great anti-war movement of 1940-41, which was backed by the young patriots John F. Kennedy and his brother Joe, Gerald Ford and Sargent Shriver, and President Hoover and Alice Roosevelt.

Whether the issue is trade, immigration or foreign policy, says Trump, “we are putting the American people first again.” U.S. policy will be dictated by U.S. national interests.

Our family supported Robert A Taft back in the day. Though they did vote for Cousin Ike when it came down to it.

Thanks for posting. Pat makes the very cogent point that foreign adventurism and nation building is NOT a legacy of Eisenhower, Nixon, or Reagan. It’s the legacy of the Bushes and their neocon supporters — and the results have been horrible. Trump’s speech lays out a vision much more in keeping with traditional Republicanism.

PJB is a modern Nostradamus. It would take years for him to complete an I-toldja-so tour. Let’s hope we can turn things around. Took way too long to wake up.

Pat Buchanan, a “true conservative” icon hits another one out of the park. Trump is on the right path.

It may not be as simple as that. Many people who cheered on Dick Cheney considered themselves 100% red-blooded conservatives and would deny that they had anything "neo" in them. When things ran into trouble it was easy to blame it all on the neocons, but it wasn't just them.

Doctrinaire liberals and progressives everywhere are all aflutter that The Donald would dredge up a phrase upon which these same liberals and progressives spent so much time deriding and loathing back in the latter days of the New Deal/Depression, because of its apparent support for the Nazi takeover of Europe. Charles Lindbergh was a powerful voice for America to remain uninvolved in the war in Europe, and his platform was the America First agenda, primarily pacifism and isolation.

These were supposed to be Very Bad Things, especially after Hitler’s war machine attacked nice old Uncle Joe Stalin, and after they had a non-aggression pact. The progressives and liberals were HOWLING to get into the war, to come to the aid of good old Uncle Joe.

America First had a very bad name for years afterward.

The Donald dragging out this term is just another way he is sticking it in the ear of these old-line pro-communist liberals and progressives.

May God protect Mr. Trump. He’s pulling the rug out from under a lot of established cronies on both sides and they’re not gonna like it. The gravy might train might come to an end.
My HS English teacher would give me a D for cliches but what the heck.

As big of a Trump fan as I’ve been, even I was surprised and elated by: “We will no longer surrender this country or its people to the false song of globalism.” That is a crystal clear break from the last quarter of a century of failed foreign policies and a return to what made us great as a country for two centuries before that.

Lindbergh was not alone in his opinions - how interesting that Pearl Harbor got attacked with its pants totally down in such a timely manner, making it very ‘unpatriotic’ to be anti-war.

Now we have the thug Merkel, the commie from East Germany, and the gaggle of NWO Globalist hens/cuckolds calling the shots. These people are no friends of a sovereign free America.

There is not a single country in the “EU” worthy of the USA’s blood and treasure. Let them stew in their own petard - they obviously learned nothing during the past 60 years.

It was really Pat Buchanan who should be considered the Founder of the modern nationalist Tea Party movement. Everything goes back to 1992. I remember Buchanan's run and he was light-years ahead of Bush on everything.

Buchanan deserves not only recognition, but a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Ugh...the “great” anti-war movement of the 40s? Is this why Trump called Buchanan a neo-Nazi in 2000?

Disgusting isolationism.

Nixon was actually a terrible President: he willingly played an active role in establishing the EPA, he eliminated the gold standard for good, and he had plans to push a socialized medicine plan through Congress.

Eisenhower should also be viewed with skepticism, especially since his first political act was to destroy the career of Robert Taft. I understand that he regretted appointing Earl Warren to the court, bur even if that is the case I am not willing to forgive his gross lapse in judgment.

Anyone can say anything. He's trying to rev up the voter base by saying the right things, and he's succeeded.

He's been a New York liberal his whole life. Are we so desperate for someone, anyone, to represent us that we are hitching on to his wagon because he sounds good, no matter his track record?

Personally, I feel like I'm being worked by him. I wish I could believe him but I don't.
