Let me agree with Mr. Trump, and supporters, that it's a very bad idea for U.S. companies to move overseas and take those jobs elsewhere.
I have personally seen the consequences of these moves in Mexico.
You can see all of these companies in the industrial sectors of Monterrey, Queretaro, Tijuana, and other Mexican cities.
They are down there hiring Mexicans, from floor sweepers to engineers to lots of people with university degrees. They are hiring professionals from the top schools south of the border.
Again, I don't like it but what can a U.S. president really do about it? What legal authority does a U.S. president have...

Duty-free imports, tax credits & incentives: maquiladoras operate in free trade zones, enabling companies to import materials and equipment without paying taxes or duties, then re-exporting finished products.
The Mexican government also offers a variety of incentives, from capital equipment grants and help with infrastructure to real estate grants, the Aerospace Training Center in Querétaro and tax credits.
How does a U.S. president stop this? He can't unilaterally, no matter how much pressure he puts on the executives not to make the move.
Furthermore, renegotiating NAFTA would mean undoing the economic infrastructure that ties Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. It would likely mean that Congress...

Again, I hate jobs going overseas as much as Trump. At the same, all I've heard so far are slogans rather than solutions. In other words, this is a lot more complicated than we've heard from Mr. Trump. d from Mr. Trump.

Require foreign importers to follow the same regulations in their overseas facilities that are required in our facilities...OSHA, EPA, Labor, USDA,FDA, FAA, ETC Any who fail to follow cannot import.
Have inspectors for these agencies spend at a minimum equal time in overseas facilities as they do in in-country facilities. I know for a fact that FDA inspections overseas run on average 5 days in the plants. Inspections in the US range from 3 weeks to 20.
The argument made for the difference is that its simple to prevent import if issues are found. However, due to the limited time at the foreign facilities the depth, breadth, and intensity of the inspections are typically insufficient to uncover the issues that are found in the more extensive inspections in the US.
Equal enforcement is needed across all the regs.
I get the feeling that there are a lot of people watching this primary and they think they are watching the opening episodes of "The Apprentice" and think that Trump has the power to simply hire and fire at will; disband cabinet level agencies (I'm not against disbanding them); will write EO's to change what needs to be changed (much like Odumbass); and, by his sheer will, drive the illegals out.
I am not against any of that. I just don't know how he'll do it without becoming a tyrant - something I truly hope all Americans are against. We do know, however, that progressives love tyrants as long as they agree with them.
Sounds good, let's think ahout this. One of the biggest reasons for opening shop overseas is the availability of overseas markets. The domestic 'safe zone' would somehow have to have that same access.

tarriffs work—ask Harley-Davis. Reagan used this as a way to counter cheap Japanese bikes. AS these folks put heavy tarriffs on our goods now-—its time we slapped taxes on them. To avoid the tax—foreign manufacturing will build factories here and hire Americans. Some Japanese, German companies, do this now. Its about JOBS —for a short time things may well get more expensive—then the forces of capitalistic market will make things cheaper.

A few years ago I tried a new Japanese Jaguar, they’re crap compared to my ‘65 model.
Moral: start off slow until you see you’re going to stick with it, then upgrade.

Writing the doc is hard. Existing agreements are public record (NAFTA text here) so please tell us which section makes it one way in your view and please say what you want to be different.
Yeah, I thot the writer was a bit of a tush when he (she?) wimpered about how the Pres. can't do what Congress does. The pres negotiates and the Senate is only there for 'advice and consent'.

But, U.S. companies do go offshore to escape onerous regulations and taxes. Is not one of the purposes of tariffs to offset this “unfair advantage” and level the playing field?
The real solution, of course, is to reduce the burden on U.S. businesses here and negate the need for off-shoring in the first place.
The next issue is to reduce/eliminate all the H1-B visas. Maybe we should make the process more like “The Hunger Games” and make them really work for it.

SIMPLE: It’s all a matter of allowing different standards for labor and pollution. How can companies continue to employ workers at American standards when their competition is allowed to employ 3rd World slave labor? How can American companies afford to keep the air/water clean when China allows red rivers and black skies?
SOLUTION: Only allow imported goods and outsourced labor that meets ALL American standards. Wages, safety, environmental, overtime, social services, medical, etc, etc. When standards are equal, it’ll better and cheaper to buy American.
Right now we outlaw companies in the USA from polluting and treating workers as slaves. While we hand over our money/sovereignty to foreign companies doing this overseas! DUMB DUMB DUMB

Who grants them higher prices for their goods based on their claim to be employing Americans?
Aren't their margins driven by their cost of production?

It is simple, so let's keep it simple by just saying that's what we're going to do and let's drop all the crying and whining about the mean ol' companies leaving.
There are any number of legal departments associated around labor laws that can slap a lawsuit on the companies. These people aren't being replaced because they are bad workers but because workers in Mexico get paid a lot less.
There is the bully pulpit you call out the CEO in a press conference to explain himself. Then you keep beating up on the company until no one in their right mind wants their product.
Place a bill in congress for Tariffs against the company.
I'm sure there are any number of ways to make life hell for the company.
How many of the lay offs affect minorities? I'm sure you could get the NAACP after this company for a shakedown as well.
Don't pretend that a President can't make business difficult for companies that disrespect American workers.
