Although Trump seems to be making a concerted effort to appear more presidential by delivering a speech on foreign policy in Washington on April 27 and more traditional by bringing in grown-ups like veteran GOP political operative Paul Manafort, his choice of a running mate could still be as unconventional as his cant-look-away campaign has been.
Among the obvious candidates are former rivals like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who threw himself onto Trumps gold-plated bandwagon shortly after pulling out of the primary race; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who would help in his crucial home state and possibly offset some of the Hispanic animus toward the illegal immigrant-bashing billionaire; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, an early primary dropout and former darling of conservative fat cats; and Ben Carson, the soft-spoken former neurosurgeon who has endorsed Trump and could add gravitas to the ticket plus as an African American, he might make it seem more inclusive.

Maybe a little tongue in cheek,Chuck Norris is my choice. Who stands up to him? One word and Mexico builds the wall for us!
I like the judge, but, she can’t because of her past marriage - it would devastate both of them. Do some research.
I think he would be better for AG.
Trump is gonna' have to do something to clean up the sewer the US Senate has become (it isn't the only one). How does he do it without Jeff Sessions in the US Senate?
Keep in mind that there will probably be a lot of transition and a Democratic majority. Someone's going to have to bring the new ones into a Trump coalition.
Why is the loss of the US Senate an almost sure thing? A lot of the most disgusting backstabbers are up for election. I doubt voters are going to give them another chance. Add to that, a very vindictive, unhinged, and possibly deranged Ted Cruz will still be there.
sessions knows who is on the short list for veep. probably helped build it.
Mini-Me?
re: Steve Miller. Have you noticed? Since he’s been doing the openings, there seems to be less trouble with protestors.
A good “fit” for Trump would be Allen West. Plays the minority card which scares the dems. Adds military experience that Trump is lacking. Fits with Trump’s overall message. It might be doubling down on the “tough guy” card but a V.P. who’s not a “tough guy” might end up not making much of an impression at all.
Most of the VP suggestions in this thread seem bad; ideally, a running mate should balance the ticket in some ways, and I’m unsure how any of these accomplish that.
I think Trump would be better off w/ someone a bit more soft-spoken, introverted, and relatively detail-minded, who’s able to rattle many specifics about how various policy ideas will be implemented, etc.
Though I’ve no idea off the top of my head who that might be.
What about Newt?
Newt’s a big personality, as is Trump. I don’t think two big personalities on the same ticket is optimal.
Would be cool to see Newt in some kind of position within a Trump presidency though.
> In my opinion, an excellent or even the best choice would be Dr. Condoleezza Rice.
You need your head examined if you want Bush era retreads in positions of influence.
if you want to help Israel, the most important thing we could do for them is to get the US government out of their decision loop.
It’s not that simple. The US has funneled hundreds of billions of dollars to Iran, knowing that it building bombs to attack Israel. US weakness in Syria has brought Russian jets to the border between Israel and Syria. Under Obama, the US may be leaning toward a UN Security Council resolution to impose foreign troops in Israel to “protect” the Palestinians who are mounting terrorist attacks. The US collides with the EU to fund illegal building by Palestinians while bullying Israel to destroy homes inhabited by Jews. It is not enough to say the US should disengage. It has created a real mess and is actively supporting Israel’s enemies.
Can we resurrect the Curtiss Lemay, as portrayed by George C Scott and run him?
Why did West give up the fight when he did, after his seat in Congress was stolen by election fraud?
All the US has done is destabilize the entire region and made Israel less safe, all the while handcuffing them on their Palestinian problem.
Long term, Israel and Iran are going to have to be friends - that’s their historical relationship and both have strong reasons to restore it. It’s just not going to happen in the context of threats to bomb Iran coming out every other day, that locks them into a posture of self-defense and prevents long-term issues from being resolved.
A Middle East with Israel and Iran working together to contain Sunni Arab extremism is the only possible framework for a stable Middle East. A constant verge-of-war scenario between the two, with the US heavily involved, inures only to Saudi and Turk advantage.
