Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz has tapped former technology executive Carly Fiorina as his running mate in the race for the White House.
The Texas senator plans to formally unveil his pick for vice president Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
That's according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the plan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized speak before the official announcement.
Cruz is trying to generate momentum for his struggling campaign. GOP front-runner Donald Trump swept primaries in five Northeastern states on Tuesday.
Cruz has been mathematically eliminated from winning enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination before primary voting ends.
But he's pushing to claim the nomination at a contested national convention in July.
The 61-year-old Fiorina endorsed Cruz earlier in the year after abandoning her own presidential bid. The former chief executive at Hewlett-Packard has never held elected office.

Apparently it worked for Kennedy in 1960 with Lyndon Johnson carrying Texas for him. Reagan tried it in 1976, didn’t do him much good. He was only 70 delegates behind tho.

My guess is he wanted to take the focus off Trump’s resounding landslide victories in some of the most populated states in the union, but it’s just a joke. Cruz VP. It will become a meme.
Your post 291 is ludicrous on the face of it. It’s 9:30 est and all the talk is about Trump and his sweep last night. Fox panel agrees Ted’s move was desperation time - and they’re the last Japs in the jungle refusing to surrender. CNN’s delegate analyst was STILL going over the map talking about Trump’s remarkable win. Chris Matthews was screaming about Trump’s remarkable win. There’s barely a mention of this Cruz/Fiorini fail.
In other words, Ted didn’t take any top narrative tonight.

And then he gets the keys to the budget and gets to hire and fire anybody he wants. It's going to be lights out for the establishment GOP. But they will skulk in the darkness looking for their next chance.
