Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz has tapped former technology executive Carly Fiorina as his running mate in the race for the White House.
The Texas senator plans to formally unveil his pick for vice president Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
That's according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the plan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized speak before the official announcement.
Cruz is trying to generate momentum for his struggling campaign. GOP front-runner Donald Trump swept primaries in five Northeastern states on Tuesday.
Cruz has been mathematically eliminated from winning enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination before primary voting ends.
But he's pushing to claim the nomination at a contested national convention in July.
The 61-year-old Fiorina endorsed Cruz earlier in the year after abandoning her own presidential bid. The former chief executive at Hewlett-Packard has never held elected office.

If the show was on the other foot, they'd be tearing this site apart, if we Trumpsters dug in our heels.
Hillary is THE ENEMY and MUST be defeated!
Teddy is completely out of what little bits of mind he still has.
You can only shake your head with Cruz picking a VP the night after losing so badly. Maybe after losing Indiana next week hell pick his cabinet. After losing California he can start naming ambassador posts.
Sad.
How long have you been in Japan? I only ask, because you don't understand America and Americans any more.
Trump is going to continue to beat Teddy like a drum and have MORE then the 1237 PRIOR to the convention. Ergo there will be only ONE ballot caste and Trump the nominee.
Some keep up, many don’t. :-)
Maybe he’ll soon decide where his Presidential library will be, what he will do as a retired Prez and where he’ll live after serving 2 terms. I’d also like to know what next weeks LOTTO number is going to be.
Cougar Snarly protecting little ImporTED Scruz" from Canada.
Who is there who wouldn’t vote for Cruz alone but would vote for Ted+Carly?
Cruz is the most delusional human to ever walk the earth.
He blew the current news cycle top narratives of a) Trump winning five states; 2) the unveiling a more "presidential" Donald Trump delivering his first TelePrompTer--assisted foreign policy address on a national-level and 3) the so-called "unraveling" of the Cruz-Kasich "understanding", right smack straight off the map. This is how it is done boys and girls. Forming narratives, creating buzz and dominating the news cycle. They lied in wait to spring it at the opportune moment. Anyone else see all the pre-printed "Cruz-Carly 2016" posters!? She and he (Cruz) will dominate the news now clear into Indiana and there is little Trump can do to get a reset. His only option is to name a VP choice and match Cruz step for step. This is just standard political insight. It's a good one. Every bit as dramatic as Reagan's sudden pick of the late Dick Schweiker.
It’s a real horse race now . . .
I felt microaggressions after reading that headline.!
Has Amanda Carpenter weighed in on this one yet?
I mean, she *can't* be very happy with that choice of verb...
"...and I thought we had something SPESHUL!"
This is why I dont listen to ex-pats. They have lost touch and they dont know what they are talking about. Already the RNC is wetting its pants over a 2nd or 3rd ballot. They know the score even if our ex-pats dont.
In the face of last night’s primaries, and in the face of Trump’s foreign policy speech...this is simply an effort to try and upstage those things.
Too little too late...and this VP pick does not even take stage IMHO.
CNN is showing Trump with 52 delegates total in PA out of 54:
This is simply huge.
http://edition.cnn.com/election/primaries/states/pa/Rep
Current delegate count according to them, and I have found them to be fairly accurate is:
Trump: 991
Cruz: 568
Kasich: 154
http://edition.cnn.com/election/
As I predicted on the Primary Thread yesterday, Trump got over 100 of the delegates last night.
I believe this momentum is going to carry over to Indiana next week and that Trump will win big there too.
We shall see.
I expect Trump will go well over the top (probably by 50 or more delegates at this point), on June 7th.
If Cruz is interested in the GOP (without any e) winning in November, then he needs to concede next week after Trump (in all likelihood) takes Indiana.
I pray to God that is what he will do. He has the power to:
1) Unite the party by so doing.
2) Deliver a huge blow to the GOPe by so doing.
3) Set up for a big GOP November win.

Finally, I urge all to watch Donald Trump’s Foreign Policy speech from today...the link is to the video.
IMHO, any other concerns aside, this is a great speech.

I’m expecting him to lose even more public support and the next poll will reflect this reality.
He sure has.
See, I told ya I could predict the future! LOL

Except I typo’d on “Fiorina”. Oops.
He will. If Ted starts pulling 7%-10% after yesterday, I won’t be surprised.
