Not a huge mess. You’re either related or you aren’t. No spouse, then it all goes to kids and grandkids.

Sounds simple enough to me.

Just divide it up equally. If necessary liquidate everything first.

My wife’s parents died without a will. It’s led to her siblings fighting over who owns their home (it’s in another country and we’re staying out of it). It’s split the family in two. The moral is- you’re gonna die someday. Have a will.

This is the sister’s view.

Many times the lawyer for the deceased or the business agent has a copy of a will unknown to the siblings.

This may be more about positioning legally than anything else.

I don’t find this funny...and I hope his family can resolve this peacefully and gracefully without the usual bickering, and just accept that he meant to leave 90% of his fortune to some guy that posts on FreeRepublic as AndytTheBear....

Unbelievable. Someone worth hundreds of millions of dollars didn’t even have a will. What kind of legal advisors did he have?

Although I have no knowledge of how Prince lived, I’ll go out on a limb and assume he has been, in one way or another, supporting his family and likely many others for some time. And since he has no known heir, the State of Minnesota should be his beneficiary But I’m no lawyer..

I’ve seen a side of a few people that I never knew existed, due to wanting various things from an elderly relative. Sometimes, they’ll just take what they want and not even bother to wait until after death. Others are more stealthy, they suddenly become very close and convince the elderly relative to give it to them. I’ve never been comfortable with the whole vulture-circling thing.

If his sister had any sense, she would take a portion to live off of, and put the rest in a fund for the various charities and groups in his town that he donated money to over the years.
