The new climate spin: trying to reach conservatives by making fighting climate change ‘patriotic’

Conservatives’ attitudes toward climate change and other environmental concerns shift when the issues are reframed in terms more closely aligned with their values, a new study from Oregon State University indicates.

Researchers found that people who identified as conservative were more likely to support “pro-environmental” ideals when the issues were framed as matters of obeying authority, defending the purity of nature and demonstrating patriotism.

The study underscores the ways in which discussions of important topics are informed by a person’s moral and ideological perspective, said the study’s lead author, Christopher Wolsko, an assistant professor of psychology at OSU-Cascades.

“We think we’re just discussing issues, but we’re discussing those issues through particular cultural values that we normally take for granted,” Wolsko said. “If you re-frame issues to be more inclusive of those diverse values, people’s attitudes change.”

My heart bleeds pink and green now instead of RWB. NOT! These assclowns are nothing if not persistent. Screw the science (or lack thereof) it's your patriotic doo-dee to believe.

“The new climate spin: trying to reach conservatives by making fighting climate change ‘patriotic’”

Yeah, and it is supposed to be settled science. And now it is supposed to be patriotic.

The climate change fraud merchants have shown they will try anything to convince people to give up their money and their freedom to fight so called climate change.

They are liars. The falsify data. They take other people’s money under false principles.

What the hell does caring about the enviroment have to do with a fake crisis?

These imbicels actually believe there are people that Dont care about the enviroment.

LOL. Where the Hell do they come up with this nonsense? I'm going to support disguised big government Socialism and regulatory control because someone tells me I need to obey authority? What a joke. I guess the Libs really do think that we are ignorant and easily commanded.

Why not try making it scientific.

You know, the old fashioned "persuade them with facts" approach.

Don’t see why it wouldn’t work. According to the GOP, open borders, supporting international bankers, doing everything NATO and the EU desires, and engaging in endless wars with no national interest, followed by a few hundred billion in nationbuilding, are all quite patriotic.

His plan might just work.

They found that reframing the issues around these moral foundations led to shifts in attitudes for conservatives, who were more likely to favor environmental concerns in that context.

That may be true, but we're not stupid!....trying to ram climate change down our throats with incomplete data to cover for trying to cripple Capitalism is seen by most Conservatives as a fool's errand.

They’re betting on the wrong horse with that...

My ancestors didn’t leave their home and sail halfway across the world to an unknown place about 400 years ago to “obey authority”-they left to get away from that “authority”-and I’m pretty sure most everyone’s ancestors came here for that same reason-the only people I know who would buy into this BS are liberals...

“pro-environmental”

I'm very pro-environment...

God made us stewards over the earth

Which means we should clean up our messes, protect our beautiful country, protect the water resources, basically treat nature like it's our own...

Nowhere does not believing in the hoax of AGW/climate change/global warning make me anti-environment...

I consider myself to be very patriotic; the United States Constitution, forever shall it reign.
Since when does being a patriot require that I check my brains and common sense at the door of Liberty Hall.
In the last 200 plus years an awful lot of good men have died to preserve my right to tell an idiot; that they are an idiot.
Now some two bit college shrink is trying to tell me that if I don’t embrace stupidity, that I am not a patriot?
My response to this is; HEY COLLEGE SHRINK, YOUR AN IDIOT.

There’s nothing new in promoting a pseudo-scientific scam for profit.

Climate ‘scientists’ are shameless in their pursuit of the ol’ taxpayer-funded ka-ching.
