Keeping 2.2 million Americans in prison is hurting the economy, President Obama said Saturday in his weekly address, describing a report that outlines those arguments.
The move is part of a federal effort to rally support for an effort by the Obama Administration to reduce the number of people in prison and to help them once they are released. The administration will announce the steps next week during what has been dubbed “National Reentry Week,” from April 24-28.
“This isn’t just about what makes economic and practical sense. It’s about making sure that we live up to our ideals as a nation,” Obama said.
Among the new programs being rolled out, the Obama administration said one will include a plan to help individuals with criminal records compete for federal jobs. The White House said it will also double down on its call for businesses to show favor to the 600,000 people released from prison every year.
"Now, plenty of people should be behind bars. But the reason we have so many more people in prison than any other developed country is not because we have more criminals. It's because we have criminal justice policies, including unfair sentencing laws, that need to be reformed," Obama said.

Actually I can see Obama letting all the thugs out, arming them and sending them at the patriotic segments the US.
How about the millions we’ve allowed to be slaughtered for the sake of economic convenience before they were born? Does he have anything to say about those? Of course not.
So he wants to release all criminals onto the streets and disarm law abiding citizens. Starting to figure it out yet America?

Good grief. Between this and the insults to Britain, I do believe he trying to set a record for stupid stuff.
What he really means is that there are “too many” blacks in prison because of racist laws.
Our ideal is we are a nation of laws. You break them you risk going to jail, pretty simple.
Instead of the “broken window” economic theory odumdass ascribes to “white American middle class under siege” theory.

When evil-doers are in prisons and jails they are not out breaking laws, mugging, looting, robbing, stealing, raping and killing.
Thereby not creating new work for hospitals, funeral parlors, grave diggers, lawyers, insurance appraisers, police, judges, courthouse workers, etc.
By releasing evil-doers from prisons Obama is actually creating jobs.
It’s just another facet of the O’conomy most people not as smart as Obama wouldn’t think of.
