“Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee,” Haugland said. “The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor.”

“You become the presumptive nominee when you get 1,237 bound delegates,” RNC spokesman Lindsay Walters told CNBC. “You officially become nominee when you have 1,237 votes on the floor of the convention.”

All he is really saying is that these estimated delegate totals don’t get you the nomination. It becomes official when they actually vote at the convention.

The delegates are bound on round one, and if Trump walks in with 1237 in round one, he’ll get it. Until then, he could only be called the “presumptive” nominee.

If he attains 1237 delegates and the party tries to deny him, their days as political players in the U. S. will cease at that very moment. None of them will have a say in what follows.

Trump will go third party, and not only his supporters, but others who don’t like foul play will join in.

The Republican party will cease to exist.

Curly Haugland, this is just that braying jackass from North Dakota who actually thinks he and his low life friends are in charge. He’s a message Curly we are taking this county and your party with it. So just STFU!

Do Republican ELECTED SENATORS and ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES understand that if Trump reaches 1237 and then is dumped that they will be DESTROYED in November, as there is NO WAY that we Trump people are about to pull the lever for ANY REPUBLICAN at any level, if the party denies him the nomination.

Do THESE REPUBLICANS understand at all that this is not just about Trump anymore - it is THEIR CAREERS and the careers of their staffs and everyone else associated with the Republican party that is on the line here. About the only Republicans safe this year are the 30 or so Senators that are NOT up for re-election...the rest will be sent packing, if Trump is sent packing.

This is a LOT MORE than just Trump at this point, on the line. It is up to these elected people to put a stop to this crap, if they want to have a job in January.

The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor.

This moron clearly does not know that delegates are pledged on the first ballot. That means if Trump reaches 1,237 before the convention he must win on the first ballot, unless the rules are changed to either make the delegates unpledged on the first ballot or to raise the winning threshold. Either such change would be political suicide for the Republican Party.

So to paraphrase:

Getting 1,237 delegates does not mean that you have the nomination. At least not until the 1,237 delegates have a chance to vote. So when they do vote, then you will be the nominee.

Semantics and much todo about nothing we didn’t already know.
