She is MUCH better today, thanks!
A little shaky on her feet, but her eyes stopped twitching and her gait is much better coordinated.
She sees the neurologist Sunday.

WHEN 4 IS A PRIME NUMBER
HAYDN: QUARTET IN B-FLAT, OP. 76/4, ALLEGRO CON SPIRITO Haydn and Mozart had a complicated relationship. When Mozart, 24 years younger than the old master, appeared on the scene, Papa Joe understood that he was witnessing something unique. The two met, and Mozart was delighted to encounter the first adult who did not try to use him.
One day, Mozart, who was an exceptional keyboard musician, bet Haydn that he could write something that the old master, another fine keyboard player, couldnt play. Mozart then wrote down a short piece that ended with both the harpsichord players hands at opposite ends of the keyboard while requiring him to hit a middle C. Haydn objected that even Mozart couldnt play the piece. Wolfgang sat down at the harpsichord, and when it came time to hit that middle C, he bent down and hit it with his nose. Haydn paid up.
The two men formed a string quartet, named by the late Victor Borge as the Million Dollar Quartet: Haydn on first violin, kid brother Michael Haydn on second violin, Mozart on viola and Karl von Dittersdorf on cello, no doubt taking copious notes. These four men tried out their quartets on each other, and it had an effect on Haydn.
As Mozart tried out a new genre of music, Haydn had always retreated and switched to another genre. But when Mozart dared to write string quartets, Haydn pushed back and wrote his very best material, breaking the earlier mold he had set up.
This is the first movement of the Sunrise Quartet, which is a textbook example of how to write a sonata movement and the relationship of the keys. Allegro con spirito means quickly, with spirit, not quick with the drinks!
Haydn: Quartet in B-flat, Op. 76/4, first movement

I dont think I ever saw a brown pigeon.
Dont let them steal your red hat! LOL!
I had to look 3 times the first time i saw the brown pigeon- there is a small flock around the huge fir trees out front. I see them as they fly home for the night -they stop in the trees.
What a laugh Brown Pigeons wearing Red Hats. good one ma.

Hi Kathy, any big weekend plans?
I'm laying low, just mowed son's lawn while he was at school and probably will go shooting tomorrow.

Daniel likes supervising - although I have been able to rely on him for watering daily - I don't have time to water in the morning anymore - I'm out the door to work at 0530 every morning.

WHEN 4 IS A PRIME NUMBER
MOZART: QUARTET IN D MINOR, K. 421, ALLEGRO MODERATOD minor was one of Mozarts special keys. It was the voice of Death in Don Giovanni, which gave it a special resonance for composers who came later. This is the first movement from one of his mature quartets, and it shows Mozarts approach to sonata format. Note how Mozart is unafraid to use dissonance, something that Haydn would come to use later.

Good to be back. My experience in Canada was wonderful, and I've developed a few new acquaintances.
I'm doing a chamber music sampler series, and the best way to start is to demystify the string quartet.

Good evening, Maestro! It is interesting that Haydn and Mozart were so close together on the timeline - I had always thought of Haydn as having preceded Mozart by a considerable distance. That Mozart influenced Haydn is new territory for me - thank you very much for that insight!
