Republicans fret: Is Cruz crumbling?
The Washington Post ^ | April 22nd, 2016 | By Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 04/22/2016 2:13:29 PM PDT by Mariner

Sen. Ted Cruz’s wipeout in the New York primary, while expected, nevertheless rattled many Republican insiders and activists who did not foresee the magnitude of the defeat. Is Cruz crumbling? Was Wisconsin an anomaly? The Cruz campaign set itself up, sending the candidate to campaign for days in New York and suggesting that Cruz could pick off congressional districts. He didn’t, and worse, came in third. Expectations should have been kept low. Really low.

Just as they recovered from New York, anti-Trump Republicans looked up to see a batch of polls from the states that will be voting on April 26. Trump is ahead by a healthy margin in all of them. Gulp. Trump is winning by 18 points in one California poll. According to another report, Cruz is tied in two Indiana polls and behind in one. Yikes.

Cruz isn’t crumbling, he’s static.

He will be well behind Trump when convention time comes.

He’ll have pull at the convention, but not enough to get the nomination.

Same goes for Kasich though he will be much lower in delegates.

Trummp/Rubio is what’s shaping up.

Trump leads in every CA Congressional District.

You must be counting on a Cruz resurgence there.

Oh, and Trump wins Montana.

How could Cruz have not known that would come back to bite him?

Even on April 5, it was clear to most people that Cruz was not going to be mathematically eliminated prior to the convention.

If those two things happen as you estimate...then Trump comes into the convention handily.

Based on the polling news out of both IN and CA today, your #s are way low.

As of today Trump would win all 72 CA votes and the majority of IN.

The GOP wants a contested convention. So does Cruz.

So what does that make Cruz?

A GOP tool.

Those are just my own estimates.

If you are right and Trump wins big in IN and CA then he does come into the convention way over the top.

Watch my crocodile tears, feeling so sorry for Cruz for all his “sacrifices” on our behalf.

He is nothing, but an opportunist, looking for power, by conning conservatives.

Cruz - From his support of ObamaTRADE, from his LYING,
to his blackmail and whoring and false accusations,
is NOTHING but a slimy lawyer. So no change.

Delegates might not pick Trump, but with no one else looking like a winner, they just might go looking for someone who won’t struggle to unify his own party.

Can JenRube really be that clueless? Maybe should meant to say someone who won't struggle to unify the remnant of the party that would even consider voting for a "fresh face" candidate picked by disloyal convention delegates and party insiders.

With regard to Cruz whining about no personal time, no family time, lack of sleep and no time to perform his duties as senator for Texas, Donald Trump is here to help. Very soon, Cruz’s very busy calendar will be cleared.

Not a Cruz supporter here but consider the idea that all the GOPe (Jeb & friends) lined up behind Cruz with the intention to do him in. Like the trojan horse scenario. They probably determined that Cruz would be an easier sucker than Trump.

Once Cruz is dispatched, they will turn all their efforts to Trump. I still think the GOPe will attempt to hijack the nomination, despite what they say.

Trump needs to watch his back.
