Video description: Being completely ignorant of history, the left has put a gun-totting, democrat-shooting, Republican on the $20 bill. By all measures and means, today most leftists would HATE Harriet Tubman...and she'd likely shoot them too!

EXACTLY. I think the news cycle that is being pushed is all about the general election and fundraising...ON BOTH SIDES.
Anyway, the show you had in mind was probably The Great Adventure, which broadcast an episode about Harriet Tubman on Friday, November 1, 1963. Supposedly, Steven Spielberg is working on an account of Harriet Tubman for HBO. With such great source material, if they can avoid political correctness and ideological ax-grinding, it should make for quite a show.
Conservatives should cheer this. I’m all for it. Harriet Tubman was a great American, a fervent Christian lady and Republican patriot who had more courage than most men.
You, smartie, you! In checking it out, I’ve found that I’ve comflated two competing shows and, indeed, the Tubman show was The Great Adventure! As was my other favorite, The Henry Bergh Story (the founder of the ASPCA) starring Brian Keith. I’ll never forget the image of Keith bringing a poor child in his arms through a door as the camera did a closeup. Wow! It seems to me that Profiles in Courage focused in on our Founding Fathers and The Great Adventure focused in on less famous but equally brave Americans. This was when both Dems and Reps loved America.
I must say, I laughed at your description of your father banning any JFK show from your household. Sounds like my mother although I happily watched that show as a six or seven year old.
In the 70s, Cecily Tyson did a very good tv movie about Harriet. A very exciting story and a very fascinating woman.
Thanks so much for your response. Only freepers have memories like this.
You forgot the Trail of Tears.
“who had more courage than most men.”
Today that would be nearly ALL men from where I sit.(Military troops excluded)
Edmund Burke said it all.
10’s of thousands of US soldiers that have served in various wars have more compelling stories of heroism than that.
The scowl helps feminazis and other leftists to “identify” with her.
Not a bad idea! Remove Lincum from the $5 bill in favor of Calvin Coolidge. Take Hamilton away and put Rutherford B. Hayes on it. Leave Andy Jackson who paid off the national debt and guillotined the infamous Bank of the United States right where he is on the $20 bill.
For what it’s worth, here’s my take on it...
If it was ANY other administration, and the idea had been in the planning for a long time, with public discourse, etc., it wouldn’t bother me.
But this is about political correctness, and it’s about slowly erasing American history and replacing it with something else. It’s about this lame duck assh*le ramming things through at the end of term, just to stick it our faces.
Got nothing against Tubman. She was an American who had her place in history, in her time, just as Jackson did.
My problem is with who’s forcing this issue.
Anything done can be undone.
Times have changed in BOTH parties in 1928 for the Democrats and again in 1972. For Republicans in 1964 and perhaps this ignorant year.
And most of the people who gun down blacks are Democrats or Democrat supporters.
I’m glad I’m not the only person who saw this and cheered.
Those days of old sure seem tame and quaint now.
They could get me on board by giving me some free samples. A duffel bag full would do.
By this measure, we should have Audie Murphy on some bill.
Sorry, heroism itself does not quite = influence on country.
Especially when there are so few bills/coins to use for the honor.
My only possible acquiescence to this would be the idea we’d have rotating honors every XX years. Been doing that with coins now for the last 15!
And by your definition, every one of them who wasn’t a white male would be affirmative action heroes.
Don’t sugar coat your bigotry, celebrate it.
Love it!
My people were being killed...your people were killed..
Plenty of folks died.
