Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.
"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"
"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."
Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

No one is voting for Kasich.
What has Ted Cruzs GOP done? Fully funded the murder of those of babies.
At some point the references to Cruz is going to have to stop being the go to response. IMO, Trump is the nominee. Unlike others, I don’t see Cruz winning this
This is going to be but one small example of many shifts to the left he’s going to take in the general. I don’t expect Trump to yell, “ all abortions should be banned.” It wasn’t that long ago he thought women should be jailed for having an abortion. And he once said he was very pro choice. So, we are left wondering which Donald not only will run but govern. Based on that, how can you be certain he’ll keep his position on stopping illegal immigration?
So in a short time, he’s angered the pro lifers and the pro abort feminists
Kasich won’t hike my taxes. Trump said he would.
You just nailed it. SOme of us have realized for years that the party plays pro-lifers for fools. They don’t care about abortion, they just use it to hoover up money. Then we get badly written laws at the state level that get struck down and the losers get stuck with lawyer’s fees. And let’s also be quite honest, Trump’s views on this mirror wuite a few other conservatives’ views on the issue as well.
My guess is “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain and concentrate on the wicked witch of the west.”
You would let your wife die to save an unborn child. THAT IS fantacism. I agree with Trump.
He is man who has never repented of a single sin in his life. Nothing he says should come as a surprise.
Which Republican Candidate said differently?
Trump for President.
> the 100% pro-life position is noble and logical. In the real world, it prevents the cause from making any real headway. Meanwhile, many millions more die, because we won’t budge.
That’s exactly how I see it, word-for-word.
It’s such a moral dilemma, when it’s the life of the mother. Not so much on rape, but I can understand a mother who gives up the child (to adoption) after such an event.
Of course they had done nothing. If they actually did something they’d have lost the carrot.
As they become more merged into one Washington Cartel though, many would like to see these social issues disappear altogether. These exceptions get them one step closer while still pretending to be ProLife.
Especially since most of the voters are now mostly snowflakes that melt at the fist sign of a heated argument or hurled accusation of bigotry or hatred.
We have far more important things to worry about than abortion, mentally ill people of the opposite sex in bathrooms with our kids, property rights, higher taxes and a POTUS who can not name three nuclear delivery systems? I would say you are a glass half full kind of guy.
They can get even extreme positions accepted by the mainstream because they have mastered making the sale.
Social conservatives will have to prioritize development of this skill if there is to be any sale of social conservative policy to the mainstream.
“If the right to life is denied, no other rights matter. Nor do walls, immigration policies, and taxes. Everything springs forth from the right to LIVE.”
What you said.
I don't know if I'm in FAVOR, but I'm certainly ambivilent.
This absolutely drives me CRAZY!
Are we so morally bankrupt that we're now only worried about expediency (i.e. political advantage and disadvantage)? Isn't there place for saying that Donald Trump is MORALLY WRONG in this position of his? Or are we regressing to the liberal mantra of "You can't judge! His position is no more or less moral than yours!"...?
Whether someone's polls (or actual votes, etc.) go up or down is irrelevant, morally speaking (especially given the emotion-driven sheep that make up our electorate). Even if this "move" were to gain Trump 100% of the general election vote, it'd still be morally corrupt. Evil things don't "become" good things because they gain some sort of political advantage.
As long as the left pushes the social component from its perspective, conservatives will need to push back.
