Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday came out against removing former President Andrew Jackson from the front of the $20 bill, saying "pure political correctness" is behind the move. "Andrew Jackson had a great history and I think it's very rough when you take somebody off the bill," Trump said during a town hall interview on NBC's "Today" show.

It's thanks to Jackson that Florida is part of the United States. Jackson won one of the most decisive victories against the Brits during the War of 1812. And, once again, he was an ideologically significant figure because of "Jacksonian Democracy" and opposition to Central Banking (a mixed bag, but important). There may be other historical figures more important and worthy than Jackson to be on the $20, but Harriet Tubman isn't one of them by a long shot.
Harvey Milk is slated to appear on the $3 bill.
One final point: I oppose this move to remove Jackson for the same reason that I oppose removing monuments to Confederate commanders. Not because I’m particularly dedicated ideologically to either Jackson or the Confederacy, but because if you let the PC left tear down the memories of Jackson or of Confederate commanders, that will embolden their broader agenda. The PC Left has no more use for George Washington (another “racist slave owner”) than they do for Robert E. Lee or Andrew Jackson. The latter are just easier targets for them to tear down in their march forward. If we let them replace Jackson with Tubman today, 20 years from now they’ll be replacing Washington with Cesar Chavez.

When I was single there always seemed to be a shortage of White women too but there were plenty that rejected me.
A black, Republican, Christian, female as opposed to the first Democrat president. What’s wrong with that?
My favorite local radio talk show guy, Bob Lonsberry, broadcasts from WHAM Rochester, NY, but he’s a down home red, white and blue champion of conservatism from rural Livingston County. He was once fired from WHAM over aired comments deemed politically incorrect and racist by the left. He also lost another show by offending the politically incorrect “right,” by backing a more conservative candidate. He was restored to WHAM in time, when his listeners abandoned the sponsors.
I just pulled off the highway to listen to Lonsberry’s full segment on the fascinating and significant life of Harriet Tubman. If I can find a transcript, I’ll post it, but this is what was on his website today:

I’m a former history teacher, freed to teach using original sources and published books. Even my school district knew that who writes the textbooks controls the narrative fed to our children. I knew Tubman’s story, and included it in my curriculum. I knew Jackson’s story, too, and included the matter of defying the U.S. Supreme Court to forcibly remove the Cherokee from NC to Oklahoma.
Soon, Tubman’s home in Auburn, NY will be made a national historic site. It’s been in the works for decades. A few years ago Pres. Obama made a bus tour of the area, visiting the commonly visited Women’s Rights sites in nearby Seneca Falls. Tubman’s great grandniece went on TV begging the president to visit the Tubman site. He spent the night at the Auburn Holiday Inn on the same street. Next morning, he did his workout at the YMCA across the street, then rode right on by the Tubman home without stopping, her sobbing relative and others holding signs on the lawn. He was on the way to observe a rural high school lacrosse team practice. I’ll be thinking of that when he says anything regarding Tubman.
As Lonsberry said today, she earned this honor on the basis of the content of her character. He’s glad for it, and so am I. What distresses me is that our Secretary of the Treasury was ready to jettison Alexander Hamilton from the ten until he saw a hip hop Broadway show.
You did not live in the time. Its easy to sit back now and put 21st century attitudes on 19th century events. That’s why I said you need some perspective.
Let me give you an example of perspective. When I was a child in the South there were separate restrooms for blacks and whites as well as separate water fountains for blacks and whites. Nobody thought anything about it. It was just the way it was and had been. I totally accepted it. Now in 2016 I think it was abhorrent. See how that works?
I think Harriet Tubman is a fine choice to put on money. How about we put her on the nickel or the dime or the quarter? Or better yet put her on a $1,000 bill. Leave Old Hickory alone.
President Trump should send his Treasury secretary to cancel all this politically correct nonsense.
Objectively, who made the more important contribution to American history:
A. A Revolutionary War veteran and hero of the War of 1812 who is mostly responsible for Florida being part of the union or
B. An abolitionist who helped some slaves escape.
Sucking up to the grievance tribe.
I say we put Aunt Jemima on the bill. Everyone loves Aunt Jemima, and she’s black too.

His politically incorrect bona fides are well established. Just because you don't agree with him on every such issue doesn't mean he's "caving" to anyone's pressure.
It's a matter of state laws, in any event. I guess we'll see if there are any court cases which arise.

I agree Trump is a pragmatist first and foremost and right now this is not an issue.
I'm not continuing this conversation. I learned a long time ago that you can talk all day to a fence post but it's never going to learn anything.

I am surprised Obama would go along with this. Jackson was the first real Democrat. He didn’t like to deal with congress and relied on the veto to get his way - these are the traits Obama admires! So here comes Tubman, a republican, gun toting Christian woman, 100% black and Obama is OK with that. Wow!
We haven’t had a change in people on our notes since 1928. Before that we had Daniel Webster, Lewis & Clark, Lady Liberty, Henry Clay, a bald eagle, Albert Gallatin, John Quincy Adams, Joseph Mansfield, Robert Morris, DeWitt Clinton, and James Madison on U.S. Notes in addition to those who are on the current series of U.S. Federal Notes.
We have had a lot of people on our notes, just no new people in the last 88 years.
Other nations regularly change their currency, just as I might remind you we do with postage stamps, so why have we been locked into place for the last several generations?
Our coins have changed a lot in that time.
We added Lincoln to the 1 cent coin in 1909, before that it was an Indian.
We added Jefferson to the 5 cent coin in 1938, before that it was an Indian.
We added FDR to the 10 cent coin in 1965, before that it was the Greek god Mercury.
We added Washington to the 25 cent coin in 1932, before that it was Lady Liberty.
We added Franklin to the 50 cent coin in 1948 (and replaced him with JFK in 1964), before Franklin, it was Lady Liberty.
And the one dollar coin... okay, that’s been a mess, but we have changed it a lot in the 20th and 21st century, including Eisenhower, Susan B Anthony, Sacagawea, and now the Presidents series. But for the first part of the 20th century, it was Lady Liberty.
Did you notice that none of our coins bore the image of a President until 1909? Just as 3 of the current 11 official notes don’t portray a President (Hamilton, Franklin, and Chase.)
So why the fuss over this? Tubman is a good representation of the American spirit. She fought for freedom and liberty, she fought oppression and didn’t rely on the government to get it done. She was a strong and capable person who had vision, drive, and a clear sense of right and wrong.
Opposing this just because it’s change is as ridiculous as supporting this just because it’s change.

Agree on all points with your posts 61 and 63. As I indicate, I'm a fan of Jackson's action in the War of 1812 and not a fan of uprooting the Indians in that particular instance, but as with all things Democrat, messing with our money is an evil solution to a non-problem. You nail it when you point out that this is their usual campaign to control our future by destroying our memory of our past.

Democratic activists hate actual children--they kill them in the womb and lie to them in school. They spend their energy trying to make functional children out of adults.
Rejoice. Obama could have put W. E. B. Du Bois or Margaret Sanger on the $20. Little victories are better than no victories.
