(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."
AD FEEDBACK
Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."
Strange times we find ourselves in.
HE may have to walk this one back.
Ive talked to long-time blue collar dems that are completely horrified at the partys position on this. I think maybe the leadership doesnt realize not just everyone is down with this ridiculous crap being considered some sort of civil rights struggle. They buy the gay thing to a point, but this is a bridge too far for a lot of them, at least for this cycle. A smart republican would hammer on this, make it the biggest issue you can.
Trump is a smart and successful business man who chooses to participate in culture killing reality TV and pro-wrestling as himself because he digs that dog squeeze. It’s pretty inexplicable, at least to me.
Freegards
I’m not smart enough to tell a trannie from an actual woman. Half the women in my wife’s family look like men.
But I am smart enough to know that you can’t allow just “some” men. It is either all or none.
Feminism>no fault divorce>fornication>shacking up>abortion>civil unions>gay marriage>bathroom perverts>marxist utopia
So is it our position now that men can go into women’s bathroom?
Are we allowed to differ with Trump on this?
Or should be just remain silent?
And the wall!
And this is what I have come to regard as pretty close to the truth.
Libertarian not liberal. Is it a conservative thing to pass laws stating what businesses should do on their property? I find that very not conservative and big govt like.
Trump used libertarianism to pivot towards the general election and to avoid these gotcha social hot button issues that just produce no good press. Stick to border security and the economy and we win.
This is bad news for America. We are already stuck with Trump.
Getting very hopeful for a decent 3rd party candidate.
You are quoting me? Where did you get that idea? Re read my posts..
Just wait until those anti-Trump voters learn that Kasich is a carbon copy of Trump on this.
Of course! After all, better our daughters be raped by "aryan" freaks than some bead-fumbler not of our Blood! [/sarcasm]
>>enclosures with their own closing/locking doors<<
You mean more privacy for a child molester to have his privacy? Good grief. This is so messed up.
A Liberal view
I will still support Trump if he is running the GOP in August.
But apparently there is no room for criticism and Trump often does have NY values—some of which are good ;)
So be it.
Right is right, wrong is wrong.
On this, Trump is both wrong and foolish.
