Ted Cruz has made few friends among Republicans in Washington during his nearly four years in the Senate, but his message to GOP elite as he looks to build support to the partys presidential nominee is that he would bring more Republicans along with him.
In a private meeting with members of the Republican National Committee, the Cruz campaigns high command, including campaign manager Jeff Roe, strategist David Polyansky, and delegate-hunters Ken Cuccinelli and Saul Anuzis, made the case for Cruz as the partys stronger choice for the general election and argued hed help down-ballot GOP races. Mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP nomination on the first ballot, Cruz is betting on Donald Trump failing to reach the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination on the first ballot, and plotting to secure as many of the then-unbound votes as possible.
According to multiple people in the room, Roe pitches the members on Cruzs commitment to grassroots organizing and cited poll numbers showing Cruz as a better candidate than Trump in the general election. Yet Cruzs own numbers are less than spectacular, trailing Hillary Clinton in nearly every poll, and often by substantial margins.
Cruz made a late addition to his schedule Wednesday to attend the spring meeting of the RNC at a beachside resort in Hollywood, Fla, where his campaign has arranged an afternoon of small-group meetings with RNC members. The Florida meeting represents the largest gathering of known delegates to the convention,...

That ship has sailed, Jeff. I don’t see it. Kasich is beating Cruz now. Cruz is taking on water fast.
Ted Cruz: "I am the king of voterless states!"
Must have gotten his attitude from Rush & Levin.
Well! Well! Well! The Cruzers can’t be happy about ole Ted getting cozy with the GOPe now. Or, maybe, blindly, they don’t care.
Ted Cruz: “I am the king of voterless states!”
TM. LOL. The Cruz supporters don’t care.
They think he can hop scotch over Trump at the convention,
not realizing tha Americans will view his nomination
as illegitimate.
My husband is still Cruzing and I can’t understand why. I too thought better of him but today brought up bile.
He shows his true self and it’s not nice.
He’s really made a mess of this. Same kinda mess he made in the Senate......my way or else.....
Um did you read the part about Trump going there. He will be doing the same thing
Not surprised at all. I turned in my Ted Cruz fan club card weeks and weeks ago. If Donald doesn’t make Ted his b*itch then Hillary sure will.
GOP has to know that the man who draws 10s of thousands of supporters to stand in line for hours for a rally often in terrible weather will draw more support down ticket than the guy who gets a couple of dozen people to attend a rally.
Cruz hates Trump more than he loves America. He loves himself more than America. What a total waste of potential!
I agree. That is pretty much how I see it.
Good letter!
Ted “Turd in the punch bowl” Cruz needs to give it up. Someone bring out the hook. It’s over.
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don't right
The wrong that's been done
(I'm sorry) I'm sorry
(So sorry) So sorry
Please accept my apology
But I've been blind
And I was too blind to see
Look for a gracious departure of he loses badly next week and polling in Indiana looks poor.
He's looking like an opportunist, no core principles.
Compared to who?
Do you really think politicians do have the kind of firm core principles that those outside electoral politics have?
“Cruz is now in bed with the GOPe all the way.”
I agree. He has been in bed with them for some time now. Nothing new to anyone who has been paying attention.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich and representatives of Trumps campaign will also be in Cleveland this week to make their pitch to RNC members.
‘politicians’....Perhaps not, but I do expect a ‘principled conservative and a Christian’ to have them.
