Top Donald Trump Campaign Aide Quits in Shakeup
NY Times ^ | 4/18/2016 | Maggie Haberman and Ashley Parker

The national field director for Donald J. Trump’s campaign — who is a loyalist to Corey Lewandowski, the embattled campaign manager — resigned in a letter to Mr. Trump on Monday afternoon.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunity to serve you and your campaign over the past 7 months,” Stuart Jolly, the director, wrote in his resignation letter. “The journey has been extraordinary and many experiences on this journey will never be forgotten.”

Mr. Jolly, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, was especially loyal to Mr. Lewandowski, whom he had worked with previously at Americans For Prosperity, the free enterprise advocacy group associated with the billionaire brothers Charles G. and David H. Koch.

In the letter, Mr. Jolly stressed to Mr. Trump that his departure “has nothing to do with you or Corey’s staff, because I have never worked with a finer group of people.” The letter, and a major staff meeting on Saturday, were reported by the website Politico.

“The friendships I have made through your campaign will last a lifetime; my hope is that ours will as well,” he wrote, calling Mr. Lewandowski “one of my best friends” and offering his availability in the future “if you ever need me for any reason.”

But the resignation was seen as a sign of distress among those loyal to Mr. Lewandowski about recent changes in the campaign that have curtailed his influence after a string of losses in states like Wisconsin and at state conventions to select delegates.

Mr. Jolly, whose first national campaign experience came this cycle under Mr. Trump and who was deployed to help the campaign in New Hampshire primary after a disappointing second-place finish in Iowa,

This is out of necessity. Cruz is in each and every state won by Trump going away stealing the delegates left and right. Georgia is the latest, where Cruz finished third, but will end up with more delegates than Trump. This is how rigged this system is folks. It makes no difference who the states voted for him. It’s who the party bosses want as the nominee. That’s why Cruz will have to have a heart attack and drop dead before he will ever get out. He thinks by stealing some in each and every state he’ll only be behind Trump by a hundred or so and when the GOP gives him the nomination on the 2nd ballot it’s all “legit”. Makes no difference whatsover that the people would have soundly rejected him in state after state and the “loser” Trump went into the convention with more votes. Cruz has been sent from heaven to save the country. Just ask him. Trouble is Hillary Clinton ain’t got the message and will beat Cruz in an historic landslide and that’s exactly what the GOP wants. They want Hillary and not Trump.....anybody but Trump. So the new tagline for the GOP is “rather lose with Cruz” than Donald Trump win.

The only way Calgary Ted gets the nomination is if his GOPe masters give it to him.

There are two tragedies in life, not getting what you want and getting it.

So... let’s get this straight.

The guy quits. Says nothing but nice things about Trump and Lewandowski, but suddenly it’s described as a “shake up” and the reasons behind his quitting are “seen as” a reaction to Lewandowski’s role being reduced in the campaign (if that’s even true - seems to me that Trump has been 100% loyal to the man throughout). So... New York Slimes, what, EXACTLY, does “seen as” mean? Seen by WHO? YOU?! This seems to be nothing more than media-speak for “we made something up, and we have no real news, but the thing we made up is now the basis for this story.”

So we have a story based on propaganda made up out of thin air, the Cruzers eat it up, and... well, here is it on Free Republic, hoping it’ll somehow sow discord or distress in Camp Trump.

And this is only one instance out of thousands. They never stop. They never quit. They’re NEVER honest.

Let us hope that Donald wins by such a margin, today in New York, as to truly rattle the cages of the Times Trump haters.

Don’t look at this like a typical campaign. Corey did well for the purpose he was hired for and he will continue to be part of it. But with Manafort and Wiley coming in to support the next phase, some people will no longer be needed. No biggie in my book.

Corey L did get his nose bent when Manafort came on board. Seems Corey wanted to “manage” Manafort, and Manafort saw things differently.

Corey has apparently been blocking other campaign aides from approaching Trump with concerns or suggestions, which likely has something to do with the delegate gettin’ process going the way it has. Just my opinion.

So Manafort was like; I answer to Trump, and no one else. Corey has been pushing back, but I think he is on thin ice with Trump right now. Just my opinion.

I believe Trump is looking hard at his team right now, because he knows that some on his team are just too new to national politics to be effective. Corey has felt “demoted” since Manafort came on. I expect him to be feeling even more demoted as soon as it won’t be bad optics.

For what it’s worth, I don’t believe Trump allows discord.

The man only became national field director a month ago, so my sense is that his appointment had to do with Lewandowski’s legal difficulties until they were resolved.

Trump’s take:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/trump-responds-campaign-shakeup

Following news reports that Donald Trump’s field director had resigned amidst changes in the staff hierarchy at the campaign, Trump lashed out at Politico and the New York Daily News during a Tuesday morning interview on “Fox and Friends.”

Politico was the first to report that the campaign’s field director, Stuart Jolly, resigned from the campaign after new Trump aides Paul Manafort and Rick Wiley were given a larger role. According to Politico, Trump indicated at a Saturday meeting with top staffers that Manafort and Wiley would take charge of the remaining May and June primaries.

On Tuesday morning, Trump did not deny that the shakeup took place, but said he was not at the Saturday meeting. And he railed against Politico and other members of the media when asked if there was any truth to reports about the campaign restructuring.

“Well, I must tell you, between the Daily News and Politico, two failing papers that I hear are going out of business — I hear the Daily News is shutting down and Politico covers me so inaccurate [sic]. They write stories and they don’t even call,” Trump told “Fox and Friends.” “With all of that being said, I was not at a meeting. I heard about a meeting that I attended.”

“I was not even at a meeting. Nobody called me from Politico,” the real estate mogul continued.” These guys write stories — it’s not necessarily a bad story — but they write stories. They have no facts. They never even call.”

After calling the media “dishonest,” Trump praised his campaign team.

“I brought in Paul Manafort, who’s a total professional, won tremendous numbers of races. Corey’s done an excellent job. Everybody seems to be getting along pretty well,” he said.

Trump was then asked whether members of the campaign staff were upset with the increased power given to Manafort and Wiley.

“When you bring in new people — and we’re bringing in very high-level people,” Trump responded. “So when you bring other people in, I can see some people, their feelings get a little bit hurt. I don’t know most of these people — field people.”
