Trump or Cruz
vanity | 17 April 2016 | wgflyer

Posted on 04/17/2016 6:35:15 PM PDT by wgflyer

As a stout, constitutionally minded conservative I am, of course, a Cruz supporter. As a person who has worked and saved all my life toward my recent retirement, I am adamantly anti socialist, hence, anti Democrat, anti establishment, and I am ok with Trump. I would prefer that Cruz wins, but if either of the two becomes our next president I will celebrate.

The current Trump/Cruz divisions on our side of the political spectrum, and the rancor, is distressing. But perhaps there’s another way to look at things, for beyond the election.

Cruz has already demonstrated a bulldog effort to counter the elite. Trump has expressed a huge desire to fix their screwups. Both accuse the other of dirty tricks in the campaign and the two factions are busily attacking one another, to our combined detriment.

Face it. No one is going to make a dent in the establishment without the ability to use the tools at hand to his utmost advantage. Nice guys won’t be able to compete with the likes of our current Federal Government occupants. We will need ruthlessness. The “dirty tricks” are, if you will, training for dealing with the real enemy, who’s strength and underhandedness has been so formidable.

With Cruz’s knowledge of constitutional law and his persistence in fighting for us, as already demonstrated, and his ability to work establishment primary rules to his advantage show us he goes not toothless into the fray. Trump’s unabashed political incorrectness and his ability to derail the media and flummox the establishment indicate strength and resolve. His ability to turn disadvantage into advantage shows cunning. Both candidates are willing to fight back as necessary and both, amplified by the bully pulpit and a broad popular support, could do wonderful things for we who want our country back. Any other candidate, on either side, would be the usher of greater decline.

We’re at a three way fork in the road. One fork leads to, and over, a cliff. The other two take us elsewhere, to be determined in future history, but certainly away from the cliff.

I profess that I don’t really know what will motivate trump if elected. I’m pretty sure what will motivate Cruz if elected, as it has been demonstrated to me under fire in the Senate. I’m absolutely certain as to what will motivate any other Republican or Democrat if elected. The establishment elite in both parties, and their cronies across the huge bureaucratic landscape, will do everything in their power to derail or coerce either Trump or Cruz both before the election and especially if one of them is elected, because the path to the cliff is gilded with gold, roses and waiting parachutes for them. We can’t have that.

If we think about it, perhaps, in that light, maybe we can focus on making sure that one of the two “good alternatives” becomes the candidate, swallow our bile if our guy loses, whoever our guy is, and support the winner. The combined Trump/Cruz grass roots support is a powerful voting block and is as impervious as has ever been to the establishment media assault complex.

Never Trump, if not Cruz, or Never Cruz, if not Trump, are not wise philosophies at this point in the game. Either candidate marks a decided change from the path we’re currently on. That is a good thing. One of them absolutely must be our next president.

Kenny, the post was vanity, by me, and meant neither to be pro Trump nor pro Cruz. The mea culpa, however, that I’m a Cruz man, stands. If Trump wins, I become a Trump man. That’s all I’m saying.

If I were the sole deciding vote Hillary/Cruz? I’d stay home.

Ted Cruz has been pro-Constitution, even in college. Ask his professor.

THIS is who Cruz IS, and what he has fought for and WON!

“Ted Cruz, Veteran of 9 Supreme Court Arguments, Says First Amendment on Trial Today

March 25, 2014

Ted Cruz has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court in his lifetime, more than any other current member of Congress. Today, as a U.S. senator from Texas, Cruz is making a different kind of argument—one in the court of public opinion.

On his Facebook page and in a statement released by his office, Cruz has declared his support for the families who own Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties in their First Amendment challenge of an Obamacare mandate.
Oral arguments in both cases take place today at the Supreme Court. .....

The Supreme Court has the opportunity to affirm our fundamental right to religious freedom,” Cruz said. “Time and time again, President Obama has granted exemptions to the politically powerful, yet refuses to grant the same leniency to those for whom Obamacare’s contraception mandate infringes on their beliefs. (snip)

Cruz is no stranger to the nation’s highest court. As the solicitor general of Texas, he found himself arguing some of the most consequential cases of the last decade. On his Senate webpage, he lists six cases that established “landmark national victories”:

====> U.S. sovereignty against the United Nations and the World Court in Medellin v. Texas;

====> The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms;
The constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument;

====> The constitutionality of the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance;

====> The constitutionality of the Texas Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment law; and

The Texas congressional redistricting plan.

Cruz has filed more than 80 briefs in Supreme Court cases, including one defending Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties. Sens. John Cornyn (R–Texas), Mike Lee (R –Utah) and David Vitter (R–La.), also signed that amicus brief.

Although I once would have voted for Cruz, I’m now never-Cruz.

It’s Trump or nobody.

All my life I have voted conservative, and almost always I have been betrayed by the GOP. I want a major revolution within the GOP. I will not support a candidate that the GOP considers acceptable. At this point in time that is Cruz — I won’t support Cruz.

Thanks but Cruz is not "working" establishment" rules. He's being propelled along BY the establishment which is actively helping him in order to stop Trump. Cruz isn't some delegate Svengali who is going around the establishment and beating them at their own game. He's their tool.

Ted and his cult believe heis annoited by God, he’s not. He also is a lying fraud who is power mad. He has no chance of getting the nomination. If by some back room deals he or someone other then Trump get the nomination I see NO reason to vote for a Bush clone wannabe. As far as I can see at that point it doesn’t matter who rules over us. If it’s Cruz or the democrsts it means God has turned his back on America.

I guess one might look at it as the establishment lying down with Cruz, in order to oust Donald, the objective of both. Once that is accomplished, if it is even possible, they will then get out of bed and attack Cruz. I would imagine both candidates understand that. I fervently believe that both leading candidates are loathsome to the establishment, Cruz especially, regardless of any appearance to the contrary. But divide and concquer is the main operating mode of the establishment, and it appears that they’ve done their job well here in the primaries. If we remain divided after the candidate is chosen, we fall.

Point well taken. Been a long time. Protocol evades my aging memory, but this is where I've posted pretty much everything. If I've erred. Apologies.

Wrong, Cruz has shown a backstabbing trait in JOINING the elite, the GOPe. It’s all over the news.
Now he is gullible enough to get betrayed because of his ambition.

IMO Cruz decided to F the race up to get this to the convention no matter what, even though millions more people voted for Trump and Cruz can’t the crouds or voters coming to the polls for him.

IMO, Cruz will wipe out if nominated. I think Cruz is causing others to get in.
At this point the conspiracy by the GOPe and candidates to F Trump has caused the GOP to become losers for a long time. The GOP will blame conservatism for this due to Cruz and will become more Democrats.

I can't think of better more simple criteria for making a decision on who to support in an election.

I know what your statement was. But I can’t understand how anyone can still be with Cruz knowing he’s an establishment vote. My reply was to inform but I guess you already know and still support him.

It’s your vote.

It is amazing all the fantasies and conspiracies that Trumpets invent about Cruz in order to justify their hate filled positions. Anything that does not support Trump, or works against his getting the nomination is attacked in the vilest way and turned into some supposed dirty trick by Cruz.

I understand what you are saying and it very well could be that way...But if it isn’t and the establishment pushes Cruz in, then Cruz becomes beholden to them and we just have “politics as usual”...

Trump is beholden to no one...That’s what scares the political elites so much...

I won’t support Cruz for several reasons.

He has some of his records sealed which in my opinion means he’s hiding something. Why doesn’t someone ask him about that.

His wife, Heidi, is CFR, Goldman Sachs and a proponent of the North America Union...open borders between Mexico, US and Canada.

That’s enough to make me very leery.
