On CNN this morning, Michael Smerconish confronted RNC chief strategist and communications director Sean Spicer about the validity of Donald Trumps complaints about a rigged delegate system.
Spicer insisted that the system is a completely fair one that has so far benefitted Trump and noted how candidates tend not to complain about states until they lose them.
Smerconish suggested Trump has a point about states overturning the will of the voters and pressed Spicer to say that the GOP nominee should be the person with the most delegates.
Spicer made it clear again that a majority of delegates clinches who the nominee is, not a plurality, likening it to giving someone a Powerball win if they get 5 out of 6 numbers right.
Smerconish offered him this advice/possible warning about the dangers of delegates denying Trump: If you come out of Cleveland and you dont have this guys constituency, you will lose in the fall.

Why is an open primary preferable to you? Do you think it's a good idea that liberal loons can help select the GOP nominee?
Adults to Michael: “Without the GOP, Trump looses.”
Not really. Just think back to the election 8 years ago....or even 4. It's almost like seeing a repeat of Obama's machinations.
In fact, most of the insults being flung around at "non-Trump" supporters by the most radical are just "retreads" of the Obama crowd.
The few Trump supporters I know personally, aren't like that at all........and don't like where this "nastiness" is going.
Makes me wonder if Obama's acolytes have jumped on the "Trump Train".
Smerconish Is an idiot. If Trump or his supporters pull out of the GOP and run as third party, either Hillary will win or no one will get the 270 electoral votes throwing it to the House of Representative and a GOP victory.
So Trump will give back all the delegates he didn't earn because the process is "rigged"? I mean, if he only won by 35 percent in a state, he should only be awarded 35 percent of the delegates. He shouldn't be able to take 100 percent.
You said...."Count the votes of people that went to the polls".
I am. 60% of Republican voters did not pick Trump. Don't their wishes count in your "populist" theme?
BTW, I should have added a sarcasm tag after "King Donald". And no thanks, I've already had a King Obama........I have no desire for a repeat performance.
Mantra- now who’s being disingenuous?
GOP-e talking points.
Adults to Michael: Without the GOP, Trump looses.

Adults: Without Trump’s Constituency Cruz Loses.
Well, my apologies if I'm incorrect in calling him one of the liberal pimps.
The section on CNN that I saw seemed to suggest he was pushing the pimp's line of reasoning that the 1237 rule shouldn't have to be followed.....the nomination should just be "given" to the one who has the most delegates before the convention.
Maybe I misunderstood
No Trump. NO VOTE
Smerconish lost me when he spent 2008 reading Obama’s book aloud on his show every morning. He went from a relatively conservative host to all in for Obama.
Even fewer chose Cruz.
Millions fewer!
How do you like those apples?
It should only be registered voters and should be by congressional district. Whoever wins the most districts in the state wins the delegates.
Same should go for elections. Forget this popular vote crap. Whoever wins the most districts in the state wins the state. Why should NYC, Philly, Chicago dictate what happens in the rest of the state?
When you think about it, why is there open primaries in the first place?
AMEN!
I listened to him for years in Philly until 2008 when he dropped the mask. He’s an opportunist, he pretended to be conservative when that was the big draw on radio. Than in 2008 he put his finger in the wind and decided liberalism was the big draw in the future so he became Obama’s biggest supporter. As he hoped, he moved up to MSNBC and CNN and other venues. If you want my personal opinion, he’s a liberal who pretended to be conservative and now he gets to pretend to be centrist. In other words, a giant phony.
Dear Mike,
Not everybody is stupid enough to elect Hillary once Cruz beats Trump for the nomination.
Some are that stupid, but not everybody.
Most Political Parties nominate the candidate that is the most popular with their voters. The ones that still exist I mean.
FWIW Smerconish is a good commentator and analyst, albeit a moderate. He worked in the GHW Bush administration.
But his commentaries are usually worth hearing, even if you don’t get the happy talk you might want.
