"If Donald Trump exceeds 1,100 votes, he will become the nominee even though he may not have 1,237," Evans said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

The candidate who receives over 50% of the delegates wins. Those are the rules. Period. If Trump earns those, I will be disappointed, but I won’t “destroy” anything.
>>Yep, the party didn’t want Reagan
A lot of people did not believe that until very recently. Many of them still stand by their false belief that the GOP is the “Party of Reagan” and conservatism.
It is the party of globalism and the military-industrial-banking complex.
Do we want to be part of a political party that has such crooked rules?
The current system in both party's seem to violate basic fairness and common sense, perhaps there was once a reason for this but now its just arcane, corrupt and not serving the voters.
If the primary process is so private why do they insist on running commercials and jamming my email box full of spam?
It seems as though the parties want it both ways - the mandate of the general public via the voting and the choice of the oligarchs via the delegates.
All I know is I left the party after cromnibus and nothing I have seen has made me regret that decision.
I also know that if the nomination is a bogus. I'll write Trump in as I don't think a establishment candidate is going to beat Hillary anyhow.
I'm done with the GOPeRNC we need a new party this one has been crashed. We've been sold a bill of good in the false choice that we must organize society around the state or around business.
Its time to organize society around the one social unit that matters the most to greatest number of people, One that may actually care about you as an individual - the American family.
love how cruz voters are so quick to post and yet have no idea about what they are posting about or even read the article.
Explains why Trump wants to be their nominee.
Long, but needed. Mind if I refer to this post again and again?
I know you have meltdowns and post without thinking , but try reading the article for once.
only one side continues to throw their pacifier on the ground and cry when their guy doesn’t win.
N/P FRiend, I assumed it was a typo.
Someone sent me the rules from the Ohio page the day they voted.
I recall that if Kasich withdraws, the delegates were to be reassigned to the 2nd runner up - Trump. But I have not located the rules. The website that I trust, GreenPapers, did not paste those rules on the Ohio page.
it has been on about every media network , so because you saw it was on MSNBC it isn’t true or you don’t want it to be true?
>>Explains why Trump wants to be their nominee.
No, he wants to be OUR nominee. I don’t think he knew how deep the Progressive cancer is in the GOP.
I know it surprised me even after the pro-Obama antics of Boehner, McConnell, Ryan, Roberts, et al.
there will be numerous uncommitted delegates
that can vote any way they feel.
suppose Trump gets 1100.
he needs 137 more from uncommitteds
what about that don’t people get?
“Even if the rules were changed and Trump were thus nominated by less than a majority, Trump (or any candidate nominated through such a process) would be dead meat. A large enough share of the other candidates supporters would not vote for Trump in November”
You assume that most rank and file Republican voters understand the intricacies of Republican convention rules. They do not.
What they DO understand, is the simple concept of fair play and the idea that he who has the most marbles at the end of the game, wins.
If Trump has a sizable delegate lead going into the convention, most ordinary people are going to expect to see him nominated. If he isn’t, and the nomination is given to someone who didn’t win ‘most of the marbles’ fair and square with the people’s votes, it’s going to look like the rip-off of the century.
The Republican party will, for all intents and purposes, be dead at that point.
I find it interesting that you assume it would be the Cruz people that would provide people with golf memberships, resort vacations, etc. It would be easier (and cheaper) for Mr. Trump’s people to do that. (”Mr. Jones - I have a suite at the Trump Palace - how would you like a free room whenever you’re in town?”)
Mr. Trump also has experience with donations to people like Clinton, Coumo, Schumer, etc. in order to gain favor. “Hey, I’m in business.”
And a lot of claims you make. But it does make me wonder how much of that goes on. Of course it would only happen with the unbound delegates in most years. And delegates that if they switched their votes, probably won’t last long in the political process back home.
“The guy already walked it back, clarified, and its a nothing burger.”
Which ‘guy’ walked ‘what’ back. Please provide a link.
I doubt it... Most people get their news from ABC, NBC, CBS evening news. Most people aren’t engaged in the political process this far in advance. That’s why Colorado didn’t revolt when they first announced no primary. So unless the Trump Campaign can get this info out to the masses, and keep it in the forefront of the news cycle, most voters will stay oblivious — until it happens to them, in their own state. And Cruz knows this about people.
But those aren't the rules. This isn't marbles. Fair play, by the rules, is not based on what's popular.
Of course, you may be right in the sense that enough voters, whose "feelings" are that the nomination just has to go to the not-majority plurality winner, will be disappointed enough that we end up with Hillary. I already expect that at this point: the Cruz - Trump battle is so nasty that the wounds won't heal enough, whoever gets nominated.
“Evans later clarified his remarks, telling Politico that he wasn’t suggesting Trump would win the nomination outright with less than 1,237 delegates, but if he’s close enough the real estate mogul could gain enough unbound delegates to win.”

My point is that MSNBC *generated* the content ..... which was then parroted by the rest of the MSM.
If Trump is just short 50 or 60 delegates, it will be the voters that destroy the party. Polls show even people voting for Cruz believe whoever wins the popular vote and has the most delegates should win. Only the sociopathic Cruzers think otherwise, because they are basically Totalitarian SJWs.
