Delegates could be allowed to vote "conscience" on first vote) (semi-vanity)

All the rules could get changed before the convention starts, making everything you’ve just read irrelevant.

What?

The rules for each convention are ultimately decided at the convention itself. In 2012, for example, a rule was passed stating that a candidate could only have their name placed in nomination if they had won a majority of the delegates in eight or more states. At the time, this was widely seen as an effort to thwart possible machinations from supporters of then-Rep. Ron Paul (Texas). But the rule — Rule 40 — is a leading contender to be changed, since it would seem to limit the number of alternatives to Trump who could be put forward. Right now, no one else would qualify, although Cruz might well get across the threshold by the time the primaries end.

But all of the rules could be changed?

[The] rules could be changed to enable delegates to immediately unbind themselves. This isn’t so outlandish as it sounds — on the other side of the partisan divide, supporters of then-Sen. Edward Kennedy tried this maneuver in 1980, aiming to oust sitting President Jimmy Carter as the Democratic nominee. The Kennedy effort failed, however, and any similar effort would be hugely controversial among Republicans this year. Trump has already predicted there could be riots if he fails to win the nomination.

Gee, I wonder if those can be changed also.

“Conscience”

What about the votes of the people? Oh, I forgot, they do not matter to the GOP.

You remember that word. It’s what our elected representatives invoke when they vote against the wishes of their constituents.

Each state also has it’s own rules that the delegates must follow too....Yeah. In PA it is who got paid the most from the RNC to vote the way the RNC wants. In other words, for HRC.

“Each state also has it’s own rules that the delegates must follow too.”

How’s that? The political parties are private organizations. Their internal rules are not subject to State Legislatures.

The current rules are temporary until the convention. At that point the delegates of the rules committee will be made of up Trump, Kasich and Cruz delegates. So I doubt very seriously that Trump and Kasich will allow that.

Like a ‘Living’ Constitution.....................

Let’s play Poker with the rules ‘Living’.

My pair of deuces beats your 4 aces.

I imagine that’s what the ‘rules’ are in North Korea when playing with Kim Jong-Un......................

“read the excerpt” … The excerpt is foolishness. The rules committee will not change the rules regarding binding delegate votes. My answer addresses the real issues.

Since you say “This” [changing the rules] “isn’t so outlandish as it sounds,” would you tell us when the rules were last changed in a manner such as you think possible this time?

As for the 1924 Democratic convention, that convention was governed by a two-thirds majority rule. Would you cite an example with a simple majority rule?

Each state PARTY has its own rules that the national convention will honor.

Primaries, financed by state governments, do make them subject to state laws. The easiest example is requiring primary voters to be eligible to vote in the general election.

There are those who deny parties are private at all, which is ridiculous except that it does point out that courts have treated parties much as they would public utilities.

If trump supporters stay home which they will understandably, the senate and maybe house is gone. Serves the GOPe right. All they had to do was stay out of it and let the results dictate. I don’t normally advocate staying home but the GOPe has been vicious this primary and unpresidented in their attacks on the front runner.

How about you re-read your own vanity post. The whole third paragraph is about rule 40, the eight-state majority rule.

Instead of whining, why doesn’t Trump play the game as it is set?

There is no "game as it is set" It's pretty obvious that the game makers are changing the rules as quickly as they can to make sure Trump doesn't win. Are you even watching Colorado?

For the record, I don't care if it's Trump or Cruz. I would like to see at least a little integrity in the selection process coming from the top.

There were no rules invented or broken in CO. Cruz simply worked hard and outworked Trump, who did very little. Trump thumbed his nose at CO too by not going to speak at the convention. He chose not to and it hurt him. Cruz went there and got a rousing reception.

Then explain the #nevertrump tweet. I hope you come up with something better than a vast Trumpwing conspiracy.

Although correct, you conveniently leave out that the democrats are just now in their own war. Both sides nasty to the other. They aren’t acting any better but since we don’t care about them. We don’t get articles about the infighting that is happening.

Yes he went to Colorado, but ignoring voters in the northeast. I think trump is better off with those 250 delegates rather the Colorado honestly.

At this point a Republican down ticket does not exist for me. I await the convention still and the final numbers entering into it.

Good point but both Cruz and Trump are both losing to the democrats. Both democrats have better favorables than Cruz and Trump. Compared to the republicans, the democrats are having a tea party. Perhaps there is a correlation?

Good point, but I wondah. If the allegiances of the delegates are known ahead of time, it could happen. And the explanation of “everyone voting their conscience freely” will be presented as the unassailable reason for the change in rules.
