Ted Cruz's delegate-hunting operation is running rings around Donald Trump's team, and he's making gains because of it.
In North Dakota last weekend and Colorado this weekend, Cruz's team is out-hustling and outmanuevering Donald Trump, probably picking up a majority of unbound and "uncommitted" delegates in both states.
While Donald Trump still holds the delegate lead in the GOP presidential primary race, his Achilles heel has been a perceived weakness in his ground game. Seeking to capitalize on this, Cruz has outmaneuvered Trump lately in the behind-the-scenes battle for delegates in places that don't assign them through traditional primaries or caucuses.
Enter states like North Dakota, and now Colorado.
Both eschewed traditional primary elections and instead held conventions -- where delegates not necessarily bound to any candidate are selected. Cruz saw this as an opportunity anyway to get allies elected to the slate, banking on their support in the event of an open convention.
The candidate, after picking up more likely delegate allies than Trump in last weekend's North Dakota convention, has been on a roll in Colorado.
Thirty-four delegates are at stake in the convention process, and the Cruz campaign told Fox News on Friday afternoon it has picked up 15 delegates so far in a series of local GOP meetings. The process culminates Saturday at the state convention where a final 13 delegates will be selected.
In Colorado, delegates can pledge themselves to a candidate or run unbound. Those who do pledge only do so for the first round of voting at the convention in Cleveland. The Cruz campaign says the pro-Cruz delegates selected so far are a mix of pledged and unbound but say they will back Cruz in Cleveland.

Just think Pennsylvania and West Virginia have almost all their delegates unbound!!!
Hope that’s what you want COMMIE
UnTwusTED is cheating... Do tell ...
No the Donald got takin by the Art of the Deal!!! He should have read his book!!! Know the Rules and you can compete!
The word “class” and Cruz don’t belong on the same continent.
I’m betting, as most are, Trump will either have it going in or have plans in place to cover any minor shortfalls.
Cruz is a few weeks from an world class ass waxing in NY, and that’ll set his trajectory for the duration.
If not, it’ll be Hillary.
Fell free to continue you delusion.
Vote Cruz. Hillary thanks you.
“Ted is taking the process seriously, using his time efficiently, and proactively making contact with the delegates.” BS - face the truth he is an insider and would lay with anyone to win...he is too stupid to see that if he were to beat Trump, the same ones will dump him the next day in a New York minute, because he will THEN not be found to be legal to run..and then who gets it!
The country finally goes to hell with whom the reps pick at that point win or lose it is hitlery or a loser rep insider...time for....
If Trump will not use all legal means at his disposal to get every 1st round unbound delegate he can and visit every delegate and attempt to get their vote in subsequent rounds then he will surely lose. Shenanigans, no politics yes.
I think most of you who won’t vote for anyone other than Trump will be horrified at what comes out of the demo candidates mouth in the general. And vote a straight Repub ticket like me.
They are not capable of governing. Simply that.
Quite the GOPe insider.
He’s not paid by the GOP though. Big difference from Ted who’s frantically fluffing any establishment eelitist he can get close to.
Ted is solidifying his GOPe bona fides everyday.
Ted Cruz is now Romney’s sock puppet and bitch.
If this is “cheating” why has Trump hired a political operative named Manafort who wrangled delegates for Romney to do the very same thing? Trump was behind the curve. Does not bode well for managing the country.
Jan 20, 2017 Barack Obama is no longer President. Maybe VP Jeb Bush will be sworn in. :)
The normal process is winning 1237 delegates.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Kasich (or Rubio) can have their delegates vote for Trump on the first ballot. The delegates are bound to vote for the candidate affirmed in the primary or caucus.
Trump is way behind the curve due to his hubris and lack of preparation. He has hired Romney's delegate wrangler and now is going to do the very thing that his supporters are calling "cheating." LOL!
I posted this on another thread ...
Cruz needs 88% of the remaining delegates and Trump has just brought in a guy that is going to stop that dead in its tracks ... even if they steal it from Trump , the majority of Trump voters will not vote for Cruz ...the Cruz folks have got a tiger by the tail here and they are panicking ...so what do they do , they attack an old school true Conservative - Manafort ...they are pathetically unreal
Trump has no conservative values other than when he's "catering to Republicans right now". He's in over his head and has put together a losing team that's been outmaneuvered. Don needs to go back to his world of crony capitalism where he can contribute to the likes of Schumer and Clinton for the benefit of his personal wealth.
If they totally disband their campaign instead of suspending it at least a portion if not all become unbound.
Whats going to be really funny (not really) is watching the Cruzbots squirm if the GOPe does steal it from Trump and hands it to Cruz ... the true polls will come out , Cruz will lose, and they will blame Trump and Trumps supporters...bring it on , steal it , we dare you
