In a major shift of Catholic tenets of faith, pope releases paper instructing Catholics on how to live, tells them to accept homosexuals
Pope Francis, who has long revealed his liberal positions through interviews, came out on Friday in an official statement calling on Catholics to be more accepting of homosexuals as well as divorced Catholics.
While he didn't change official church doctrines in his paper, which is an "apostolic exhortation" instructing Catholics on how to live, the pope paved the way for a serious shift in the Catholic church away from central tenets of the faith.
"A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws...as if they were stones to throw at people's lives," he wrote in the paper, cited by CNN. "By thinking that everything is black and white, we sometimes close off the way of grace and growth."
"I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion. But I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness," he added.
"Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration."
Pope Francis' statements appear in his paper "On Love in the Family," entitled "Amoris Laetitia" in Latin. It spans over 260 pages, and is based on two conferences of the world's Catholic bishops known as synods, which were called by the pope.

Thank you for your kind words. God bless.
Apologies my Orthodox friend! You are right, the Catholic Church indeed had some help.
I second your entire post and would only add: Satan is very adept at convincing us that, if we just follow him, we will be as gods. Same old BS that Adam and Eve fell for. We are still individually responsible for rejecting him and his works and his pomps, as in the baptismal formula.
I sense that you’re right. And I wouldn’t care so much for myself. But I have a four year old granddaughter, and that makes me a little selfish.
As I understand qabbalah, it is a collection of Jewish mysticism and not a part of what believing Jews must believe. I believe in various Marian apparitions but such belief is simply Catholic mysticism and, as "private revelation" not required to be believed by Catholics. Maybe I am ignorant but I see no threat from qabballah and I am not about to take Sungenis's word for it or that of anyone else of his ilk.
If I called you a fanatic, I ought not to have and I apologize for any such comment which would not have been accurate. I do not personally understand your belief system although you have patiently tried to explain it to me. That makes me ignorant to some extent and does not make you a fanatic at all.
I am very much not a Protestant but on Biblical inerrancy, Genesis 1-11, Esther, Daniel and Jonah, you seem to well represent me and a lot of other Catholics. I really get worked up over the "higher smartypantsism" of the allegedly "Catholic" "New Jerusalem Bible" whose editors just could not back off telling us what Jesus Christ really MEANT to say when He said the precise opposite. Some fool probably gave it an imprimatur and another a nihil obstat but the footnotes are often exercises in advanced heresy.
God as the Creator of all that has been created can be a "magician" or just about anything else He chooses to be.
In spite of your experience, please be not angry but rather patient with Catholics who are now in our 50th year of generally rotten catechesis. Ignorance abounds among many clergy, never mind in the pews.
I am sure I am not addressing every concern but the hour grows late and I have four hours of exhausting hemo-dialysis tomorrow morning.
My final thought is that I am a product of "scholastic theology" which is the $64 name for the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas and is a great part of the grand intellectual tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. My education was Jesuit but Aquinas was a Dominican which shows that he was so intellectually powerful as to acquire the Jebbies as disciples. Jesuits were always very proud and do not lightly submit to teachers of other orders. If someone or many someones (mis)use St. Thomas Aquinas to attack rural Fundamentalist Protestants for their belief in the inerrancy of Scripture, St. Thomas Aquinas would dispatch their iniquity with a few well chosen words since he undoubtedly accepted the inerrancy of Scripture as fervently as any Fundamentalist Protestant.
If this thread keeps going, I'll be back. If not, not. God bless!
Tutti madre, tutti padre e tutti fruity.
God lovingly created your beloved granddaughter in her mother’s womb with the co-operation of her father. God will see to it that she has every opportunity for salvation. As her grandfather, you will no doubt lend your influence to give earthly assistance to God in that respect. God bless!
The socialist Pope is a commie Dope.
I meant exactly what I said - your statement there is 100% wrong. Catholics hold a very high view of the written Word of God (and always have throughout their long history), and your statement is completely false, making your parenthetical clause following your false statement a mere puff of meaningless nonsense.
(And, as a matter of fact, I happen to own a bookcase full of Bibles, Bible studies, and Bible commentaries, including translations and/or commentaries by Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Protestants, and various Jewish translations and commentaries on the Torah and the rest of the Hebrew scriptures (from "http://www.artscroll.com/") and other sources.)
However, today, in addition to printed resources, you can access many of those translations and commentaries online, or in other electronic formats. Here are just a very few of the multitude of resources available today for studying the Bible, from a wide array of different traditions, (but especially Catholic Bible study resources).
Conspirator, you would get an even deeper appreciation for how Catholics value the precious written Word of God if you would attend a few Catholic Masses (either daily Masses, or Sunday Masses), and just sit there and observe.

Some among us still believe in absolute truth. Apparently you do not and hope all will follow your pied piper path.
Prevaricate and double speak...your specialty?
Yes he foes and as a Catholic I oppose him and the horse he rode in on!
So....Cardinal Law was ahead of his time?
I hope you meant it as a mild compliment. I composed the post on the fly before going to work and I wish I could have edited it more for brevity. It takes a man and a woman to make a baby; a very big Godly hint that men and women were to consort and work with each other.....but even if one didn’t believe in God, the basic rational science still points to that conclusion!
Which makes you wonder why his predecessor cut and run so quickly.
Let me open with this....While not Catholic myself, love and accept Catholics as my brothers and sisters in Christ. I don’t accept the Pope as “Vicar of Christ” but am willing to listen to whoever holds that position as a Christian leader. So I’m not in any way “anti-Catholic”.
With that being said, it SURE seems like this Pope says an awful lot of stuff that has to be correctly interpreted, or walked back by others, or clarified as to what he really meant as opposed to what it sounds like. I don’t recall nearly as much need to do this with JP II. Sure, JP II had some positions I disagreed with on things like the death penalty, but it never had to be clarified what he meant.
I’ve also noticed when this Pope says something that must be clarified, without exception to my knowledge, it is ALWAYS something where he appears to be Marxist, or globalist, or socially liberal. He never seems to accidentally or awkwardly state anything that is “too capitalist” or too much in favor of personal responsibility that a flunky has to run out and say “this is what he meant.
My feeling is that he is Clintonesqe in that he wants to move Christianity to the left, and is doing so by floating trial balloons. Regardless l, God’s word is clear. It does not need constant reinterpretation. There is no version 2.0. Just like the woman and the well, Jesus message is clear. To the Christian, he says love and forgive. To the sinner, in a part of the verse no one cares to repeat, he says “Go, and sin no more”. This is NOT Jesus calling for tolerance of sin. It is a picture of grace and the opportunity to turn from sin. There is no “dignity” in living a sinful lifestyle. The pope or anyone who reads the Bible should see the distinction
“I think this Pope should spend some time and actually read the Bible”
LOL! More likely he is reading The Dailey Beast.
Matt: 7:22-23
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out Devils? And in the name done many wonderful works? And the I(Jesus Christ) will declare to them: “I NEVER KNEW YOU; DEPART FROM ME YOU THAT WORK INIQUITY.”
The Pope is in big trouble.
Meet the Press, 1999:
Russert asked Trump about gay marriage. Trump didn't want to comment on it, but said he has no problem with gays in the military.
He explained, "I've lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life, okay? So my views are a little bit different than if I lived in Iowa."
When Russert asked Trump about abortion, he said he's "pro-choice in every respect" and again cited his New York background, which he said has a "different attitude" from most of the country

"It's not the first time Trump has taken a pro-LGBT stance. As far back as 2000, Trump was advocating the idea of amending the 1964 Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation - something the currently-pending Equality Act would basically do if lawmakers on Capitol Hill ever decided to pass it.
"Amending the Civil Rights Act would grant the same protection to gay people that we give to other Americans - its only fair," Trump told The Advocate in February, 2000.
In the same interview, Trump said he favored "a very strong domestic-partnership law" that guaranteed same-sex couples equal legal rights as married, heterosexual couples.
Trump also said he believed Don't Ask, Don't Tell - the military's then-ban on openly gay service members - had "clearly failed."
Trump's spokesperson, Hope Hicks, did not immediately respond to msnbc's request for comment on where the presidential candidate stood on the Equality Act. But his longstanding support for ending discrimination against gay people has been well documented. ..."

Donald Trump said forward progress on LGBT right would happen on his administration.
In contrast to other recent remarks, Donald Trump said on Thursday progress on gay rights would continue under his administration and cast himself as a uniter of people regardless of their views on the issue.
Trump made the remarks in New Hampshire just days before the states primary in an interview with New England Cable Newss Sue OConnell, whos also publisher of the Boston-based LGBT newspaper Bay Windows.
OConnell, a lesbian, asked Trump if the country can look for more forward motion on gay and lesbian rights if hes elected to the White House.
Well, you can, Trump answered.
And look, again, were going to bring people together, and that's your thing and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together and if we dont were not going to have a country anymore.
Its hard to say what kind of forward progress would happen on LGBT rights under a Trump administration.
In a 2000 interview with The Advocate, Trump said he supports amending federal civil rights law to include sexual orientation. Although Trump has said in this election cycle companies shouldnt fire people for being gay, but hasnt said whether he still supports amending federal law to achieve that goal or whether he would also support protections for transgender people.
Meanwhile, Trump has signaled qualified support for the First Amendment Defense Act, federal religious freedom legislation seen to enable to anti-LGBT discrimination. An opponent of same-sex marriage, Trump said on Sunday he would consider appointing justices to the Supreme Court who would reverse the ruling in favor of marriage equality.
Gregory Angelo, president of Log Cabin Republicans, said the remarks reveal a glimmer of hope Trump would be a friend to LGBT people in the White House.
As Ive long said, putting all else aside and with Donald Trump, that can, at times, be a herculean task there is a legitimate case to be made that Donald Trump would be an ally to the LGBT community as President of the United States, Angelo said. Trump confirmed that today.
