Pope Francis calls to accept gays

In a major shift of Catholic tenets of faith, pope releases paper instructing Catholics on how to live, tells them to accept homosexuals

Pope Francis, who has long revealed his liberal positions through interviews, came out on Friday in an official statement calling on Catholics to be more accepting of homosexuals as well as divorced Catholics.

While he didn't change official church doctrines in his paper, which is an "apostolic exhortation" instructing Catholics on how to live, the pope paved the way for a serious shift in the Catholic church away from central tenets of the faith.

"A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws...as if they were stones to throw at people's lives," he wrote in the paper, cited by CNN. "By thinking that everything is black and white, we sometimes close off the way of grace and growth."

"I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion. But I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness," he added.

"Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration."

Pope Francis' statements appear in his paper "On Love in the Family," entitled "Amoris Laetitia" in Latin. It spans over 260 pages, and is based on two conferences of the world's Catholic bishops known as synods, which were called by the pope.

I also understand that we cannot equate your nephew with Hitler. I don't actually and I certainly don't expect you to do so. I simply extended to the absurd for illustrative purposes that my virtues or your virtues or your nephew's virtues do not excuse my sins, your sins or your nephew's sins.

The Old Testament view of homosexuality makes me look like Pollyanna. Sodom and Gomorrah. Death penalty for any single homosexual act, etc.

To love your nephew or any other human being is to want what is best for that person. The best of all is salvation. To pray for your someone's salvation is not to condone his misbehavior and we are all guilty of misbehavior of some sort.

I honestly mean no offense to you or your nephew. May God bless you and yours.

[We don’t want to be here for the Great Tribulation.]

Nope, we don’t. I don’t even think we’ll be here for the first half.

The Two Witnesses will be warning the world. Mostly, the world shall not listen to them.

Yeah, I think it happens during the Great Tribulation. The False Prophet, first, must convince the people of the world to build the image to the Antichrist Beast.

And do his false ‘miracles’ to convince them.

Now, just because I am Catholic, don’t you go blaming me for Bergoglio. God bless, my brother!

That’s the way I read it too. I haven’t read all of it but does he actually call homosexuality sin?

I do not take offense. I welcome the discussion that is not mean spirited. So many on this forum, and this thread, get aggravated when someone labels them a “hater” for speaking out against gays, but those are some of the same people that are just as mean spirited.

So to your point here: “To pray for your someone’s salvation is not to condone his misbehavior and we are all guilty of misbehavior of some sort.”

If I pray for my nephew (and I do) is that all I would be, let’s say compelled to do, at least Biblically, to help him. I ask because it’s incredibly difficult to have a conversation about the issue without hurting the feelings of any one of a dozen people.

Does that make sense?

I think the Pope overlooked these two when he talked about “black and white.”

Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

your responses to the humanist were very good.

The live and let live argument goes down in flames because they are not letting us be.

I CANT watch a show made after 2014 where 20 percent or more of the cast isn’t gay.

I just apply Occam’s razor....despite man’s tendency to sin, an x chromosome from the female and an x or y chromosome from a male denotes God’s intention that males and females should interact and have children and families. That simple scientific biological fact reigns supreme despite human moral misbehavior and a human’s ability to deceive oneself(or be deceived thru one’s own vanities and lusts).

Gays and Lezzies can bluster and transgennies may try to gain public luster...but the science proves it still takes a man and woman to produce a family cluster! The biological empiricism of the production of children can’t be argued with nor can the deduction there-of that men and women were meant to work together to raise such children flies in the face of the extreme denial the sexually perverted dwell in. They are deluded and seek to make the exception a general rule. For all their threats, though they cannot argue against the science....they may try to argue against God, but even the empirical biological facts won’t support them. Forget about the “so called” science of psychology and psychiatry; history has shown that those who are in the field can be politically manipulated to completely disregard what the harder science of genetics shows. The bottom line is that it takes a man and woman to make a baby(no matter what they are doing in labs now a days) and that those who are homosexual and trans are the outliers, the exceptions that shouldn’t make a rule, but are allowed to as our society’s moral degeneracy dictates otherwise.

Classical rationality says...male and females make babies therefore nature/and ultimately God, as one draws the inference, determined that men and women were meant for one another and that same sex relationships(sexual) are in disorder with nature’s imperatives!

We’ve allowed the mistake of ultimately defining our sexual identities by what we feel and not by looking at what we are! A lesbian may desire a woman but she needs a man to procreate...period; she is a woman, however disordered in her thinking!

That is where I think he is coming from, too. Liberation Theology.

It’s a certainty that he does not know his faith, or has rejected his faith, or he is simply not Catholic at all, if he ever was.

I have read the link and it leaves me no better impressed by Brgoglio. So Evo Morales has his socialist pope. The pope has heard that Americans receive his words as an attack on our way of life and he will have to study those criticisms. He IS attacking our way of life, a way of life that has done more economic good for more POOR people than any other system that the world has managed to devise. Our American deficiencies are not economic but moral as we spread abortion and carefree acceptance of homosexuality and birth control across the known world and particularly in the Third World.

He would garner a lot more respect (as in any at all) if he would stick to the moral business of his office. When he is done, they will kick his coffin into the crypt which is also an old tradition and a valuable one.
