Pope Francis calls to accept gays

In a major shift of Catholic tenets of faith, pope releases paper instructing Catholics on how to live, tells them to accept homosexuals

Pope Francis, who has long revealed his liberal positions through interviews, came out on Friday in an official statement calling on Catholics to be more accepting of homosexuals as well as divorced Catholics.

While he didn't change official church doctrines in his paper, which is an "apostolic exhortation" instructing Catholics on how to live, the pope paved the way for a serious shift in the Catholic church away from central tenets of the faith.

"A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws...as if they were stones to throw at people's lives," he wrote in the paper, cited by CNN. "By thinking that everything is black and white, we sometimes close off the way of grace and growth."

"I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion. But I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness," he added.

"Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration."

Pope Francis' statements appear in his paper "On Love in the Family," entitled "Amoris Laetitia" in Latin. It spans over 260 pages, and is based on two conferences of the world's Catholic bishops known as synods, which were called by the pope.

Well why not... Conservatives are being asked to accept a Progressive NY Liberal just because he SAYS he Conservative as a nominee for President...

I guess the Pope has “evolved” as well over the last 9 months... Maybe he can flip-flop on abortion 4 or 5 times soon...

Where are all our FR Catholic friends defending this outrageous, out of control Pope?

They're busy defending Trump as a Conservative...

I did not say I did not have time to read the 256 page opus of Bergoglio's usual weaseling around. I simply prefer not to. Rather than punish myself reading Bergoglio's non-stop nonsense, I will read the likes of his enthusiasts like Thomas Reese, SJ, America, and such and Bergoglio's usually justified critics at First Things, Catholic World Report, The Wanderer and many other sites for the defense of the actual Faith. Among those opinions and observations, I will find the truth without wasting 256 pages of attention on a man who is rapidly proving to be the sorriest excuse for a pope since Alexander VI.

The poor ARE often abused IN (not by) a capitalistic society, no more so (considerably less so actually) than they are abused in and by socialist Argentina, socialist Western Europe or in and by the thankfully terminated soviet unionand its puppet satellite states. That seems lost on Bergoglio who is to economics as Mao Tse Tung was to theology. An ignoramus and one whose efforts will prove quite negative and harmful.

We are all abused by bank bailouts which DO debase our currency and rob our savings more and more as the idiots (or worse) who lead our nation lean us ever further toward the manifest economic ignorance of Bergoglio (a subject as to which he enjoys absolutely no divine mandate and absolutely no competence and absolutely no talent). Yet, because he is now pope rather than some obscure Archbishop of Buenos Aires, we and our society must be regularly afflicted by his economic and political ignorance. "Even Pope Francis says....."

Most popes seem to demonstrate some degree of economic ignorance. Bergoglio elevates it to a high art form while having little use for the conservative moral positions which are the hallmark of his recent predecessors.

We DO have an INDIVIDUAL obligation to help the poor according to our respective means. We cannot expect the poor to pony up cash out of their actual poverty. They can volunteer to help others. Our obligation is NOT met by paying taxes to government which deprives us of our means to help the poor and gives those means to the likes of Obozo to see to it that the poor will have access to abortionists. As a side benefit to Obozo and other servants of Lucifer, Christians are thereby deprived, dollar for dollar, of the ability to actually help the poor.

I have no problem with legitimate charity. I have a BIG problem when government, either supported by Bergoglio and/or by many other hierarchs, steps all over us, deprives us of our God-given free will, takes our resources and applies them often against charity (defined as love) rather than in its favor. Not a peep out of the worst excuse for a pope in modern times about that.

Then there is the matter of his contempt for the very notion of national borders by way of urging us to take in "the (quite expensive) stranger" times 100 million and counting, from populations determined to eradicate Christianity itself, the United States, Western Civilization, did I mention Israel?, as an exercise in gushy brain dead liberalism. Maybe he will be satisfied when they destroy the Pieta and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling, and The David, etc. Is there any doubt that the Islamofascists intend exactly that?

I pride myself on not being a border obsessive BUT.... we have quite enough Latin American undocumented immigrants for us to assimilate in the next 25 years and some few of them may commit some old-fashioned individual crimes but I have yet to hear of a shopping center or movie theater full of innocent Americans being blown to Kingdom Come by an Hispanic "suicide bomber." Islamofascists OTOH..... Sorry Frankie, nice try but no cigar.

Then there is the little matter of trying to turn the shutting down of productive industry according to the upper class fantasies of the white glove, ohhhhhh so pristine and clean left, as to "global warming" or "global climate change" or "global population "crisis" or other globaloney designed to reduce the population of peasants whom they despise, somehow into a Catholic moral imperative. No sale! And I'm not reading that pseudoCatholic propaganda either.

I will read you link so long as it is not too burdenee with the mental effluvia of Bergoglio.

As you may have discerned, I am no fan of Bergoglio. I almost left the Church during Montini's Reign of Prudential Error, thought better of it and was rewarded with Popes John Paul I, Saint John Paul II and Benedict XVI. I am no kid anymore but I expect to outlive Bergoglio. I won't let him and his kind drive me from my Church. Maybe the end of Bergoglio will bring us a new genuinely Catholic pope who minds his own beeswax on matters economic and rawly political and confines his attention to legitimate papal business.

Progressivism is the itch that just can never be adequately and finally scratched. I would gladly see a revival of the Inquisition to deal with anyone colluding with Bergoglio in his ongoing destruction of the Church. Maybe we could make it a multidefendant, ummm inquiry, of Walter Cardinal Kaspar, Reinhold Cardinal Marx, Archbishop Blase Cupich, most of the Gang of Eight cardinals (other than Pell) Obozo, Biden, Pelosi, every prominent "Catholic" pro-abort. Ropes, stakes, an adequate supply of kindling, a few blindfolds, and away they go!

If your nephew, instead of being "gay" were an abortionist, would you still view him with all those compliments? Your post is a lot more "humanist" than it is Christian. There ARE moral standards. The Catholic Church (in its Catechism published by Pope Saint John Paul II) defines homosexuality as "intrinsically disordered" and that is traditional Catholic teaching. It does not become less disordered because a loved one is mired in that particular sin.

Each and every one of us falls short of the glory of God. We are all sinners. There are certainly sins which are equivalent or worse than homosexuality. The practice of homosexuality is nonetheless sin. Your nephew does not abide by the law of God in that respect.

Hitler died before I was born. I was born from a variety of ancestries and identify as Irish Catholic. By and large, Hitler's behavior was no skin off my nose. I lost one uncle to a German U-boat but the desroyer my uncle served on had sunk a German destroyer on the previous day. Such is war. OK, Hitler had his little drawbacks but he built GREAT HIGHWAYS, engendered German patriotism and solidarity (for, ummmm, most Germans), built heroic buildings, rose from humble status to Reichschancellor. His uncle might have called him a "good kid" too but 6 million Jews, 5 million others and all those folks with operative intelligence, would beg to differ and they would be right to differ.

Your nephew's perversions will hopefully kill no one. That does not make his behavior morally acceptable. As the Good Book says: Woe to those who call virtue sin and sin virtue!

Really?

“On six days work may be done, but the seventh day shall be sacred to you as the sabbath of complete rest to the LORD. Anyone who does work on that day shall be put to death.”

So if I work overtime, who’s going to kill me?

“When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go free as male slaves do.”

Should I advise my brother that he’s got a revenue stream he didn’t know about?

“and the pig, which does indeed have hoofs and is cloven-footed, but does not chew the cud and is therefore unclean for you. 8Their flesh you shall not eat, and their dead bodies you shall not touch; they are unclean for you.”

I like bacon

You are to accept the sinner and to shun the son.

If he is saying to accept the sinner and the sin you would be right.
If he still states homosexuality is a sin but we still accept that sinner as we do others, then that would reflect Biblical Principles.

We don’t want to be here for the Great Tribulation.

Romans 10
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 1100). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

1 Thessalonians 4
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 1146). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

1 Thessalonians 5

1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (pp. 1146-1147). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

Revelation 2
7 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
To the victor I will give the right to eat from the tree of life that is in the garden of God.”’

11 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
The victor shall not be harmed by the second death.”’

17 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
To the victor I shall give some of the hidden manna; I shall also give a white amulet upon which
is inscribed a new name, which no one knows except the one who receives it.”’
- - - - -
24 But I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not uphold this teaching and
know nothing of the so-called deep secrets of Satan: on you I will place no further burden,
25 except that you must hold fast to what you have until I come.
26 “’”To the victor, who keeps to my ways until the end, I will give authority over the nations.
27 He will rule them with an iron rod. Like clay vessels will they be smashed,
28 just as I received authority from my Father. And to him I will give the morning star.
29 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

Revelation 3
4 However, you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments;
they will walk with me dressed in white, because they are worthy.
5 “’”The victor will thus be dressed in white, and I will never erase his name
from the book of life but will acknowledge his name in the presence of my
Father and of his angels.
6 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’
- - - - -
20 “’”Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and
opens the door, [then] I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.
21 I will give the victor the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself
first won the victory and sit with my Father on his throne.

22 “’”Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’”

* [2:7] Victor: referring to any Christian individual who holds fast to the faith
and does God’s will in the face of persecution. The tree of life that is in the
garden of God: this is a reference to the tree in the primeval paradise (Gn 2:9);
cf. Rev 22:2, 14, 19. The decree excluding humanity from the tree of life has
been revoked by Christ.

I get what you’re saying, but there’s no way I’m going to rationalize Hitler with my gay nephew just because the former built the Autobahn.

And my nephew happens to be Jewish so I’m not sure what the religion says about him. (I don’t know Judaism well enough)

For as Conservative as I am - and that includes defining marriage between a man and woman, this is one issue that is just too close to me. I’d have to recuse myself if there were ever any proceedings before me.

But thanks for your input.

Jesus of Nazareth was born into this world with both a divine nature and a human nature. He lived amongus, did three years of public ministry, performed many miracles, was prosecuted tried several times, was tortured, suffered in atonement for my sins, your sins and each and every other person's sins, died by crucifixion, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven and thereafter sent the Paraclete.

As God. He gave to each of us free will. However, free will or not, His purpose was not to lend His support to libertoonian give-a-shitism. That is why I care. You should too but He gives to your nephew and to you, as your nephew's enabler and apologist, the freedom to choose damnation or not. Choose wisely.

Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration....

there’s no dignity in meeting in a park and getting nine or 10 guys together for an orgy at a four hour hotel.

There’s not dignity in doing things with your arm that no SANE human being would do.

There’s no dignity in Syphilis, HIV, AIDS.

There’s no dignity in lying to the world about the number one cause of HIV and the phenomenal rate of disease among gays.

There’s no dignity in dementia at 45 because of HIV.

Nope. There’s no dignity at all in being gay.

I’ve left out the more HORRIFIC aspects of their sex lives for the sake of the ladies on the board.

worked with a bunch in Manhattan. They’re sick.

Indeed. I knew a few in college and had some gay acquiantences in my professional life afterwards. The stories of promiscuity I heard would make your hair curl. I noticed nearly all were burdened by serious problems - drug or alcohol addiction, depression/suicide, disease, obesity, violence from other gays. I wouldn't wish the lifestyle on my worst enemy.
