New Kasich N.Y. ad goes after Cruz, ignores Trump
The Washington Examiner ^ | April 7, 2016 | Anna Giaritelli

"You have only one choice, one choice that will stop the Clinton political machine: John Kasich. Don't be fooled, Ted Cruz can't win the nomination outright and he can't defeat Hillary Clinton either. John Kasich will win the convention and he'll defeat Hillary Clinton in the fall. Wanna stop the Clinton machine and win the White House? Your only choice is John Kasich," the ad spokesman says.

.
The Empire State's April 18 primary is expected to go to Trump, who leads second-place Kasich by more than 30 points, according to a Real Clear Politics average. Kasich's ad makes no mention of the Manhattan real estate mogul though.

Cruz is headed for CA as he probably knows NY is a waste of time. Kasich may be running for VEEP on a Trump ticket.

If he does stay in NY, he should stick to campaigning Upstate. The NY values folks are mostly clustered in the city. He isn’t touching that stack of voters.

Why is Kasich still in the race?

The RNC should demand he withdraw since he has been mathematically eliminated.

The RNC has no business telling anyone to get out of the race. That's not its job. Trump and Cruz have to earn the votes and persuade the voting public at large to vote for them.

Come California, it is entirely possible that NO candidate will have a mathematical chance to win based on the committed delegates available at that time. Should Cruz and Trump get out then, too?

Kasich has not business being in the race when he can't win!

Based on your logic no candidate should ever drop out!

Kasich has already lost his chance long ago.

This is the smart play. Kasich is going to get more votes from Cruz than from Trump in New York. If he is to have any chance of winning in NY, he has to get all of the votes from Cruz.

I don’t like it, because Cruz is my guy... But you have to figure that you are going to have smart opponents who make the smart play, and beat them anyway.

And Cruz will be done mathematically in two weeks!

The fact that both will continue to run shows that the real goal is just to get to the convention.

This is not how primaries are suppose to operate.

That's exactly what he's doing. Trying to pick up voters who might have supported Cruz until his big mouth insulted Noo Yawkers.

If Trump falls short of 1237, Kasich will be standing next to him tugging on his coattails.

These two statements are not the same:

“I would like Kasich to get out of the race”

and

“Kasich should get out of the race”

It would be a good thing for my guy, Ted Cruz, if Kasich got out of the race. I really wish he would. But all of this whining about how he has to get out because he is mathematically eliminated is just silly wishcasting.

It is still a mostly free country. If Kasich wants to stay in it, he should be free to stay in it. Cruz just has to figure out a way to win anyway.

Somebody should send that memo to the Cruz campaign.

Aren’t you and yours telling all of us here that the RNC does call all the shots and all the delegate shenanigans are appropriate rules made by the rule maker? It takes no stretch of imagination, if that’s the case, that the RNC would tell Kasich he’s eating party resources, has no mathematical chance to win, lobbing negative stuff at the frontrunners and hurting the chance of the others to unify the party. But, nah. It ain’t about any of that at all.

I think Kasich will be VP

What about Rubio? He's got over 170 delegates.

“Your only choice.”

That is hideously offkey. Who writes like that?

No. The umpire enforces the rules, but doesn't declare a winner in the third inning.

They will likely be shunted aside as the GOPe/RNC finds a way to nominate Rubio.

Somebody should send that memo to the Cruz campaign.

They can cc: the Trump campaign as well. Nothing wrong, by the way for both campaigns to suggest Kasich get out. That's a legitimate CAMPAIGN suggestion, and part of persuading people to vote for your man. It is NOT part of the RNC's job.
