Sanders: 'Yes' I'd apologize for slavery & make reparations by investing in low-income communities
The London Daily Mail ^ | April 6, 2016 | Francesca Chambers, White House correspondent

Bernie Sanders committed tonight to formally apologizing for slavery on behalf of the United States if he becomes president.

Sanders told heavily black audience that Tindley Temple United Methodist Church, 'There's nothing that anybody can do to undo the deaths and misery, how many people we don't even know who died on the way over here in the ships.'

But the United States has to make an attempt to 'wipe the slate clean' by acknowledging the truth, he said after an audience member asked him point blank if he'd offer a presidential-level apology and he said, 'Yes.'

And while the U.S. Senator does not support reparations in the form of a check for the inhumane treatment of Africans before the end of the Civil War, he does believe the government should invest in low-income communities, many of which are black, and he reiterated that point tonight....

Forget about ancient history. What reparations have Jews received from the German government since Hitler?

I have made this argument before, so forgive me, but, if it were not for slavery, those African Americans who were descendants of slaves would not exist. I mean, everyone needs the exact ancestors that they have. If your great great grandfather, say, had been killed in an accident the night before he married your great great grandmother, the result would NOT be that you would be a little different, maybe blond instead of red head, for instance. No, you would not exist at all. Similarly, the pairings that were the result of the forced migration known as slavery created the unique African American population. In other words, the odds that someone of African descent would have had the same ancestors, only in Africa, had it not been for slavery is achingly close to zero. In other words, blacks in America owe their very existence to slavery

Now, please do not misinterpret this as an apology for slavery. It should go without saying that slavery anywhere is abhorrent. The United States had slavery, So did other countries. It was not the first to abolish it, but it was also not the last. What I am saying is that the historical crime of slavery, nonetheless gave us Willie Mays, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Thomas Sowell...well millions of great Americans. They reaped the dividends from the suffering of their forebears. The lives they lead, the freedom, the standard of living that the descendants enjoy is, in my reparation enough.

There is not a single human being alive who does not owe his existence to a historical crime. If we could shake our family trees hard enough, we would all find that war, slavery, rape, incest, has led to our being here now. The best thing to do is let go.

Sorry, Bernie, but by the time you or the Hilldebeest get to give this money away it will have already been distributed to illegal aliens through the bankrupt Social Security system.

The apology and check should come from the Democrat party only. The Republican party fought against slavery.

So the Bern isn’t above pandering to blacks to cut into Shrillary’s lead.

Lenin made ‘investments’ in ‘low-income’ neighborhoods, too.

Before shooting the residents.

Still, the New Americans have a short memory.

Gee, Bernie, we have been “investing in low income communities” since the 60’s.

Where YOU been? Maybe living in all white Vermont you might have missed it.

Enough. Just like most blacks have NO link to slavery: neither do most white folk.

You are just stealing money: again.

The word "investing" means something else entirely when a leftie says it.

Sanders must be about 100 years older than previously stated, if he is now apologizing for his part in slavery.

We have been investing in low income communities for over 50 years.

A colossal waste of money.

We are demolishing stripped and abandoned apartment complexes we built in the 1960’s and 1970’s for low income people.

It is hysterical that the Dems are running two wealthy, old, white fossils—one a criminal and one a communist—and claiming they are for the little people.

Pass the popcorn, please.

There has been numerous “investments” is those communities and the natives have destroyed and/or rejected them.

That worked real well in Ferguson and Baltimore.

Has CVS replaced the 'new' store they lost in the Baltimore riots? How many other companies had their stores vandalized and burned?

It is the same old Libeal feelgoodism that looks good on paper.

Sort of similar to Obama's latest effort to build low-income housing in suburbs and more elite communities. That has been tried before and failed -- as the original residents moved out due to increased crime and drugs. But it looked good on paper.

Wow. He is soooo generous with other peoples' money.

Bernie, you can't buy good will and good behavior. Though it appears Bernie is trying to buy this election with wild promises of everything to everyone. Several different analysts have researched it and said it is mathematically a practical impossibility to fund all of Bernie's promises. (here's just one look at it: http://thefreethoughtproject.com/it-cost-national-debt-bernie-sanders-uphold-promies/) And yet we are going to hear even more great things promised in the coming weeks and months - all with absolutely no hope of them ever actually coming to be. None.

Seems I read 388,000 slaves were recorded as being sold to the US. I am wondering how many AAs have actually researched to see if they are directly related to one of them.

If the election were held today, who would be
your first choice for President of the United States?

Who would be your first choice for Donald Trump's running mate?

#Berned out.
Apologies by someone who didn’t commit the act is useless.

Hey Bernie where have you been? Have you heard about Detroit and all the other cities run under liberal and black management? We’ve been there and done that for decades ‘low income communities’
