A mysterious planet that wiped out life on Earth millions of years ago could do it again, according to a top space scientist.
And some believe the apocalyptic event could happen as early as this month.
Planet Nine — a new planet discovered at the edge of the solar system in January — has triggered comet showers that bomb the Earth’s surface, killing all life, says Daniel Whitmire, of the University of Louisiana.
The astrophysicist says the planet has a 20,000-year orbit around the sun and, at its closest to us, it knocks asteroids and comets toward Earth.
Fossil evidence has suggested most life on Earth is mysteriously wiped out every 26 million to 27 million years.

Astronomers have discovered a young, nomad planet floating in the emptiness of space. Researchers hope the mysterious world, which doesn’t have a star, could help them better understand how planets form.
To make sure their findings were correct, the team checked their results using the Flamingo-2 spectrograph instrument on the Gemini South telescope in Chile.
‘We promptly confirmed that 2MASS J1119–1137 is in fact a young low-mass object in the solar neighborhood, and not a distant reddened star,’ said Western’s Stanimir Metchev.

Nemesis or Nibiru was widely dismissed as crackpot pseudo-science — until Planet Nine was identified in January by the California Institute of Technology.
Rev 6:12-14 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. Unless this meant to be satire, it is complete horse hockey! It belongs in one of those supermarket tabloids; not the Sun or the Post.
Here’s why: Newton’s Third Law: “For every action, there is an opposite reaction.” If Planet Nine collides or even changes the orbit of an asteroid, there will be a change proportional to its mass in Planet Nine’s orbit. Not to mention the effects on other asteroids and their orbits. The article mentions the Kiuper Belt but neglects to include the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Since we cannot know the orbit of all the asteroids and Planet Nine millions of years ago to any certainty, any scientist that claims otherwise is a fool or liar, or both.
