While we disagree with Mr. Buchanan on which candidate is the best standard bearer for the conservative movement there is one thing we do agree on passionately.
No matter who gets the Republican nomination, the establishment must lose.
In a recent column Lock Out The Establishment In Cleveland! Pat Buchanan echoed the conclusions of our four-part series on what conservatives should do if Trump wins the nomination:
As Buchanan explained, to accomplish that goal, All Trump and Cruz need do is instruct their delegates to vote to retain Rule 40 from the 2012 convention. Rule 40 declares that no candidate can be placed in nomination who has failed to win a majority of the delegates in eight states.
Trump has already hit that mark. Cruz almost surely will. But no establishment favorite has a chance of reaching it.
With Cruz and Trump delegates voting to retain Rule 40, they can guarantee no Beltway favorite walks out of Cleveland as the nominee and that Ted Cruz or Donald Trump does.
As Pat Buchanan said, No matter who wins in Cleveland, the establishment must lose. We urge Trump and Cruz delegates across the country to do what their compatriots in Tennessee and a few other states have started to do; get together and form an informal alliance that commits them to voting for Cruz or Trump and only Cruz or Trump.
I watched Ted Cruz with Megyn Kelly yesterday.
He did not sling mud at the Donald.
The Donald cannot keep his vile nature from coming out.
Fatally flawed analysis that miscounts the delegates already earned.
If Cruz wins Wisconsin, there’s a good chance this goes all the way to the convention with Trump leading but neither having 1237.
Cruz is in a dead heat with Trump in California.
And time is with Cruz.
Every day that goes by, people get more and more disgusted and disillusioned with Trump.
Here is how he fared in Wisconsin. He could not even fill an auditorium.
Craft move by Buchanan to give his candidate one last chance.
‘Twas a dark and stormy night, lol.
Cruz will lose big in CA. Bet the rent. Look this post up in a couple months. I’ve save it just for you.
Maybe in bizarro world where Trump controlled the rules committee, and had an absolute majority of delegates to then approve the change in a vote. But since Cruz has so many delegates that has about as much chance of happening as kasick being a conservative.
well with Trump and kasich people combining he would have a majority..
“placed in nomination” but that does not stop write in candidates.
Wisconsin is not that important delegate-wise.
Trump routinely draws thousands, sometimes 10,000. Cruz doesn’t.
I would say Trump has a 50-50 shot maybe a little higher, of getting to 1237..
Then let’s keep it. It will go away if it isn’t specifically retained by the incoming delegates.
Do you want to retain rule 40 that says a candidate must win 8 states even to be considered for the nomination?
How would that help Kasich who has only 1 state? No way he’d go for that.
In which case, this deal doesn’t hurt him.
Because Trump would offer Kasich the vp spot. Kasich has 143 delegates now and will pick some more up before the convention.
The winner of the convention can only be a nominee of the convention.
Kasich has repeatedly said he does not want to be VP, and there’s no guarantee that his 147 delegates would put Trump over the top....not today anyway.
A majority is really pretty useless if they have nothing to vote on, as I understand it, changes have to come out of a rules committee, controlled by the GOPe, before any delegates could vote on it, so the premise of Trump and kasick making a backroom deal to exclude Cruz is moot.
And how would that backroom deal between Trump and kasick be less abhorrent than the way Trump supporters feel about Cruz working within the rules to have delegates commit to him if they become unbound? Oh yeah it's because.......Cruz!
Well, he didn’t fill up the house in Wisconsin.
Sign of things to come?
