(NBC) - Donald Trump says he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of the wife of rival Ted Cruz, a rare move for the Republican front-runner more known for his boasts than backtracking.
"Yeah, it was a mistake," Trump told New York Times.
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have sent it."
The retweet set off a war of words between the two candidates, and gave fresh fuel to Democratic candidates and other critics who marveled at a Republican presidential race that had descended into a fight over the candidates' wives.
Trump retweeted the photo compilation showing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania, after he accused Cruz of being behind or at least knowing about an ad that featured an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ magazine.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online. Cruz scolded Trump after the retweet, admonishing the businessman: "Donald, real men don't attack women."
told Dowd, according to the column. "So what's your next question?"
so refreshing to see someone running who can admit they were wrong, sadly the other candidates are so far up their own butts that they could never admit they have done wrong, hell some can’t even answer simple questions without someone standing in for them.

Strange bedfellows: Why Trump and Cruz need each other now

Surrogates post the ad, Cruz denies culpability. Typical slippery lawyer answer.

Short commentary on that here.
Cruz telling Trump that real men don’t attack women after his campaign used the photo of Melania...that’s rich.
A man with class would have never ever sent such a stupid message. The truth is Trump’s advisers are showing him that he is a pariah with the female vote now, which means he cannot win in November. He did it to himself though. Too bad.
‘Class’ would include a sincere apology — as a REAL man would do.
Heidi has a campaign donation ad this AM about how Trump “attacked Heidi and her family”. No graciousness about Melania being unfairly used in a campaign ad and it all having to end. Trump did apologize for re-tweeting the unflattering Heidi photo.
Typical Trump....three weeks after admitting he was wrong....after watching his women voter polls go to hell!!!
“..so refreshing to see someone running who can admit they were wrong,...”
Refreshing? Oh please. Too late. Adults think before they speak. They investigate before they accuse someone. An adult doesn’t post a bad picture of someone’s wife next to a glam shot of his own wife. That’s what 13 year old girls do.
Trump is so immature. It’s embarrassing.
She is turning into Hillry right before our very eyes.
This just reinforces the fact that Donald Trump is not a managed and prepackaged political candidate. His opinions and positions are his own, as an American not those of political handlers and donors telling him what to say.
Trump is a successful man who unabashedly loves America — with no calculus involved in that position just a strong desire to make the America he has always loved great again for his children and grandchildren.
I think this is significant: Donald Trump has considered running for president for at least the last 15 years. And, it seems to me that in the last 15 years (at very least), America has been on the wrong track.
Still telling the lie....Cruz’s Campaign had nothing to do with that picture!!!
“Still telling the lie....Cruzs Campaign had nothing to do with that picture!!!”
I thought someone found out that the money to purchase the photo came from Cruz’s campaign manager. Is that untrue?
There you go...keep attacking the spouse.....that’s a winner!!! By the way when did Melania apologize for Trump’s actions!!!When did she show graciousness!!
Wink wink nudge nudge, Bob’s your uncle.
True
Did Cruz ever disavow the attack on Trump’s wife?
I never heard it...
