Trump needs Cruz. He'd do well to patch up things with him.

Perhaps this is a start.

Short commentary on that here.

Cruz telling Trump that real men don’t attack women after his campaign used the photo of Melania...that’s rich.

Heidi has a campaign donation ad this AM about how Trump “attacked Heidi and her family”. No graciousness about Melania being unfairly used in a campaign ad and it all having to end. Trump did apologize for re-tweeting the unflattering Heidi photo.

I agree with your assessment. Trump has done the math. After the contest in New York on the 19th, it will no longer be mathematically possible for Cruz to get to 1237 delegates before the convention. A vote for Cruz after that will be a vote for letting the GOP establishment pick the nominee.

Cruz will not be picked by the GOP establishment to be their nominee. We know this because Carl Rove, Paul Ryan, Reince Priebus, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell and the rest have all told us so. If that were not enough we have the recent debacle in Tennessee that confirms this as well.

Cruz has about two more weeks of actual relevance left in this contest. Trump needs to begin patching things up with the people who are still supporting Cruz. The best way that Trump can do this is to tone it all down and treat Cruz and his followers with as much respect and courteously as possible. I predict that the nastiness toward Cruz both here on Free Republic and from Trump has run its course. We may see a minor flair up here and here as Cruz struggles for continued relevance. But again I agree with your assessment and am looking forward to a much more harmonious rest of the race.

Yeah, dammit, the American people are pretty forgiving. If Trump were to come out and make an actual apology, etc., it may help that go away. "I thought someone was attacking my wife so I overreacted. It was wrong." If he does it right, he can pitch it as sticking up for his own wife, and that might play pretty well.

If he's going to be our nominee, he's got to stop doing dumb things that cost votes. Losing votes because you take an important position on a controversial issue is fine. Losing them because of pointless tweets/gaffes isn't.

I don't like the guy, but I damn sure want him to win if he's the nominee.

That apology has nothing to do with a “patch up”.

Trump has to increase his support among women. Period.

If TRUMP can be successfully taken out by some funky convention delegates, the GOPE has no intention of coming out of convention with Cruz as the nominee. TRUMP will let the GOP handle Cruz.

TRUMP simply has to reach his threshold marker, 1237. Cruz simply has to bark like he has a chance at punking some delegates, since he can not seem to cut it with the popular vote of the people.
