CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR JUST CHILLIN OUT
MAHLER: BLUMINEThis was supposed to be the second movement of Gustav Mahlers Symphony #1 in D, but after one performance in 1888, it was dropped and then disappeared. In 1959, upon the death of Mahlers first biographer, Natalie Bauer-Lechner, this movement popped up in a trunk of her belongings. (Hm-m-m-m-m!)
On occasion it is performed in its original place in the symphony, but more often it appears alone. The German word is pronounced BLU-meen-a, and it means Flower PIece.

CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR JUST CHILLIN OUT
BRAHMS: TRIO FOR PIANO, VIOLIN & CELLO IN C, OP. 87, PRESTOThis is Brahms with the beard and the stogies, which he would actually leave lit on the piano on stage when he performed. When other instruments were playing a passage without piano, Jo would take a puff. Theyre rolled on the thighs of fifteen year old virgins, he told his cronies.
This is the scherzo from this trio, and he grabs a popular dance, the waltz, for his middle section. But its an erotic, Brahmsian waltz, nothing like either Strauss would ever write. Clara Schumann disapproved, but its one of those things that you never want to end. Its magical!
Brahms: Piano Trio in C, Op. 87, third movement
