Here are some disturbing things we have learned since December, when the nations of the world reached a landmark agreement in Paris to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
In January, scientists reported that 2015 was by far the hottest year on record, and another record could be set this year.
In February, a Princeton-based research organization said the tidal flooding that has already made life miserable for people in coastal cities like Miami and Charleston is getting steadily worse.
In mid-March, a group of experts, including James Hansen, the retired scientist who first brought the perils of climate change to Congresss attention in 1988, warned that shifts in climate could be sudden and abrupt, giving humanity little time to prepare for flooding, severe droughts and other upheavals.
Now comes another scary prediction: If carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels continue unabated, the vast West Antarctic ice sheet could begin to disintegrate, causing the sea to rise by five to six feet by the end of the century, destroying coastal cities and low-lying island nations and creating environmental devastation within the lifetimes of children born today.

Sea Levels to Plunge Long Term, Study of Dino Era Says
“There’re natural processes that also contribute to sea level change and are in fact independent of ice cap melting,” said Dietmar Müller, a geologist at the University of Sydney in Australia.
In fact, the data reveal that the long-term trend in sea levels since the Cretaceous has been downward, said Müller, who led the study appearing in tomorrow’s issue of the journal Science.
When this trend is extrapolated out 80 million years from now, it suggests that even if all of today’s ice caps were to melt, sea levels would be 230 feet (70 meters) lower than they are today
How do we know those periods were warmer? I would like to understand more.
.... Ya ...... Antarctica has about as good a chance of “Running Away” as Guam does “Tipping Over” .... but then again ... it is April 1st ......
You said it! Oceanfront property should be at bargain basement prices these days. Never mind `rising seas’, hurricane season makes homeowner insurance prohibitive if you own on front beach.
Then there’s the new threat of runaway continents made mostly of ice. Help!!!
who cares if 2015 was ‘hottest on record’ (IF it’s even true)?
Man’s CO2 produciton, which takes up only 0.00136% of our atmosphere is NOT to blame! Period! Yes, you rwead that right- the atmosphere has only 0.00136% CO2 in it as a direct result of man-
Folks, this means 99.9984% of the atmosphere is CO2 free (of man’s CO2) Nearly 100% of our atmosphere is free from CO2 It’s so close to 100% that only a moron would think man is having any impact on global climate whatsoever-
Even when you add in natural CO2- the atmosphere is 99.96% free from CO2
There is NO thick blanket of CO2 surrounding the globe keeping heat from escaping- there is a tiny little patch- too small to even bother with-
Just ocne I’d liek to see a republican senator DEMAND that science tell us how just 0.00136% of our atmosphere can possibly capture enough heat to cause global cliamte changes
The LIE is that ‘it’s warmer- man produces CO2- CO2 CAN create heat- therefore man is causing global climate change’
Yes, CO2 can cause heat- but what they aren’t telling you is that there is so little CO2 in the atmosphere that it is NOT a cause of global climate change- it can’t be! The numbers don’t lie-
IF CO2 in such a small quantity is capable of causing this much warming- then by golly we owe it to ourselves and to the advance of science to harness this amazing heating capability and put it to good use for warmth and energy! My goodness- to listen to these scientists you would think CO2 were nearly a perpetual energy source- and that so little is needed that it’s a miracle sent from God to fuel our world forever-
Has worked for them so far.
Bmk
With all the Antarctic ice gone the land will rise. The ocean floor surrounding Antarctica will drop are the mass of the surrounding Earth are pulled to the center of the continent. This dropping of the ocean floor will cause sea levels to drop.
Why do all scifi pix about the future feature people wearing hideously uncomfortable, zip-up, spandex flight suits?
Maybe, but at least the danger of the continent flipping over because of all the penguins will be avoided ...
Thank you, there's my proof........
April Fool!
Do these people really believe this crap? They should find a globe of the world. Most of the planet consists of massive areas where there are few or no people.
Southern hemisphere sea ice is currently above the 40-year average, and is rising as the hemisphere enters autumn, so I’m not sure what the author is talking about.
