Cruz Hater Karl Rove: Let's Go With a Fresh Face at the Convention!
PJ Media ^ | 04-01-2016 | Michael van der Galien

Posted on 04/01/2016 5:36:15 AM PDT by Michael van der Galien

Karl Rove, establishment hack extraordinaire, has cobbled up a new plan to deny a proven conservative (read: Ted Cruz) the nomination. In an interview with Hugh Hewitt, the former George W. Bush strategist also known as The Architect explained what he and his fellow establishmentarians have in mind:

"I think, though, that let’s say this. If we have somebody who we think has, has been battle tested, and has strong conservative principles and the ability to articulate them, and they are nominated at this convention, there will be a lot of acrimony from the people who were seeking the nomination. But if it’s somebody who has, you know, has those convictions that they can express in a compelling way, we could come out of the convention in relatively strong position, because we do have, you know, look.

"Donald Trump excites a lot of enthusiasm. But he also excites a lot of anger within the Republican Party and outside of the Republican Party. And a fresh face might be the thing that could give us a chance to turn this election and win in November against Hillary."

Rove rightfully pointed out that Trump's negatives are through the roof, which means it'll be virtually impossible for him to win a general election, but he has no good reason to argue against nominating the Ted Cruz, who's second in delegate count and who seems to be on track to win in Wisconsin, which would provide his campaign with a major boost.

The only argument Rove has is that Cruz is sometimes winning against Hillary Clinton and sometimes losing...

The "fresh face" might be someone whose Constitutional Conservative "principles" have been untested in DC. It might be someone who cast a few patronizing votes to appease us little folk, but has already been bought and paid for.

Rove is illogical. If the puppetmasters really wanted a "fresh face", they would've embraced Trump.

The Republican Party committed suicide when the nomination was stolen from Cochran two years ago. The voters put them on life support with that election. It’s time to pull the plug. The corpse cannot be saved....it’s rotted through and through.

I think you have nailed it.

Exactly.

The same people controlling our political system, are the same ones selling out America.

These are the ones fighting Trump. They want to have that control, and continue to sell out America.

Completely on target.

The delegates mostly are not supporters of either Cruz or Trump. They are establishment hacks.

Are you involved in your local party? I am. I know the pool of people from whom many of the delegates will be chosen. I am one of them. If I an selected as a delegate, my first choice is Cruz with Trump as a backup. I have stood up to senior members at the district convention before, and I expect to it again. In our meetings it was Cruz 36, Rubio 9, Carson 6, a bunch of guys 2, and John Ellis Bush 1 or thereabouts.

Look at the YouTube videos of teh '76 convention. The Reagan delegates were there for Reagan, and they weren't going to moved.

Trump does have the disadvantage of not having a structure to get his people in where he wins. It is an important part of the process that is overlooked at his peril. Both Reagan and Cruz covered their bases as well as possible on that one, with Reagan faltering in NY and PA, but Trump having support in those areas.

I would say that Trump's biggest problem right now is Paul Ryan with the gavel. I am not going to be thrown off my choice for president because I'm afraid of party shenanigans. there are enough of us, principled Cruz and Trump delegates, to make '76 and '64 look like a British boarding school Sunday afternoon treat.

I’m confused. Yesterday Cruz was the GOPe darling. Which is it?

He never was their darling

He was the only one who might keep Trump under 1237 that is all.

Governor Scott Walker said a week ago let the cat out of the bag by saying the nominee is not currently running for President

Even though Rush Limbaugh acts like he never heard it.

Trump either gets 1237 or Romney, Bush, Walker, Ryan or who knows will run against Hillary

They know Cruz can't even carry the South, never won a county in Florida, Virginia and Ohio.

Based upon Rove’s latest remarks it would seem quite plausible that many in the establishment may have suddenly chosen to support Cruz for the primary purpose of creating a foil to Trump. In this manner, neither candidate would ultimately gain the required delegates which would provide political cover to deploy a brokered convention.

This brokered convention manufactured by the GOPe would certainly deny Trump a path to nomination. It would likely deny Cruz the nomination in the spirit of “fairness”.

Wanting to appear as peacemakers with an illusion of even-handedness they will bring forth a salve in Paul Ryan and attempt to install him, possibly with Kasich somehow, with the nomination. From a purely political position now you have both Wisconsin and Ohio in play in November, but either way, if they lose to Hillary they still win.

So, yeah, as a Cruz supporter it would appear that Mr. Rove is telegraphing events being planned for the convention.

Or we could just burn the whole thing to the ground and start over......

That’s when Cruz and Trump should form a third party and clean GOPe’s clock with a win. I believe they could pull it off even though its a third party.

This is soap opera drama. If Trump gets the 1237, he will be the only one with 8 states won w/ majority of delegates and the Repubs will not change those rules before or at the convention because the only thing more important to them than power is the existence of the party. And they know if they do any of these things, or any of the other things being fantasized about in the media, they will no longer have a party.

And why would anyone think that Ryan would have a snowball’s chance to win if half the Repubs sit home or write in a candidate?

When Dewey’s name came up on a local Allentown radio station the host referred to him as Dewey Thomas. I had a good laugh.

“It is an important part of the process that is overlooked at his peril.”

He has not overlooked it. Trump has hired Manafort, the best in the business, to whip the vote: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/04/01/delegate_hunter_manafort_brings_savvy_to_trump_camp_130167.html

There are calls all over Trump-supporting social media for people to come to the convention and peaceably demonstrate for Trump, and many are already making plans, looking at lining up buses, tents if necessary, geting permits, etc. If it comes to it,Trump delegates are planning a walkout so they don’t have a quorum to vote.

Trump knows what they’re planning to do, and his people are laying the groundwork.

The problem with a ‘fresh face’ is that the GOPestablishment think that means: Romney, Ryan, Perry, Rubio, Jeb Bush, etc.

At least they have similar qualifications: they ran and they lost.

I hope that those backing Cruz understand - in their bones - that the Establishment people like Rove absolutely detest and despise Cruz. The entire primary process has been designed to stop the grassroots (i.e. We the People) from nominating someone that they (our lords and masters, in their view) cannot control.

This means people like Reagan (he slipped through, they didn’t count on his communications skills and how he resonated with the average person), Fred Thompson (they stopped him) and Ted Cruz. Oh, and Donald Trump - they REALLY didn’t count on someone like him showing up.

So, I would urge the Cruz supporters (and most especially Senator Cruz, himself) to consider that even if Cruz rolls into Cleveland with 1,237 delegates (and the math of this race says that such is extremely unlikely, no matter how much one likes him or his views), the Rovians will try their damndest to stab him in the back. My expectation is that Trump will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,150 delegates and Cruz something like 750 - 800. Neither will win on the first ballot, nor will they likely on the 2nd. At that point, if the 2 of them do not cooperate, the Rovians will insert a candidate and they will BOTH lose.

Time to make a deal boys - NOW, BEFORE THE CONVENTION. Present the Rovians with a fait accompli, don’t even let their heads get above the water line.
